The Sandman fans will be getting a bonus episode
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Sandman season 2
Netflix’s grand fantasy series, The Sandman, is set to conclude with a bonus episode, following the streaming giant’s confirmation of the show’s end, reports the Mirror.
This additional instalment arrives after the main narrative was neatly tied up in the second and final season of this fantastical saga.
The Sandman, boasting an impressive cast, concluded with a dramatic twist that saw Morpheus’ infant son Orpheus morph into a fully grown adult, portrayed by Jacob Anderson.
Orpheus is now poised to assume his father Morpheus’ (Tom Sturridge) role as Dream of the Endless.
The bonus episode follows Netflix’s release of The Sandman in two parts, with episodes one to six debuting on July 3, and the remaining five, seven to 11, arriving on July 24.

When will The Sandman season 2, episode 12 be released?
The 12th episode of The Sandman’s second season will be available on Netflix from Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 8am.
This corresponds to midnight PST on the Western Seaboard of North America and 3am on the Eastern Seaboard on the day of release.
Netflix typically releases most of its shows at midnight PT, as the company’s headquarters are located in California, which falls within this timezone.
Entitled Chapter 12: Death: The High Cost of Living, the bonus episode will centre on Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), according to Variety.
The surprise bonus episode caught viewers off guard earlier this year and was revealed by Netflix alongside the confirmed episode titles for the second series.
The first season also included an unexpected bonus instalment titled A Dream of a Thousand Cats/Calliope.
This episode followed a Siamese cat envisioning a different world, alongside a writer struggling with creative block who encountered Morpheus.
A Dream of a Thousand Cats/Calliope drew its inspiration from Dream Country, spanning issues 17 to 20 of The Sandman comics.

Will there be The Sandman series 3?
Unfortunately, Netflix has confirmed the second series will mark the final chapter of The Sandman.
Showrunner Allan Heinberg had always intended for the second series to conclude the story, well before filming commenced in summer 2023. His decision was only made public in January this year, however.
Still, given the major twist in series two, there remains potential for a completely new narrative.
Heinberg confessed that if approached about a third series, he would agree “instantly”.

Speaking to Variety, he revealed: “I would write this show for as long as they would let me. This show feels like all TV shows – like you can do anything.
“You can write about anything in the context of The Sandman in funny ways and romantic ways and scary ways.”
He expressed being “very sad” about the programme’s conclusion, calling it a “creative dream” for him.
The writer highlighted The Sandman’s vast storytelling potential, describing it as a canvas where “all manner of stories” could unfold across “imaginary realms and time periods”. He further commented: “And this has been an education for me, this show, in every way – as all shows are, but more so this time. And I can’t believe Netflix let us make it.”
