Javier Milei and his sister Karina have presented their sworn statements to the Anti-Corruption Office. The President informed a total fortune of 206,046,375 pesos and the presidential chief-of-staff 11,401,021.93 pesos. In comparison with the previous fiscal period, the increase in the presidential assets was 63.9 percent, responding, in general terms, to their revaluation. In his sister’s case, the increase was 221.2 percent with the key in her new income as a member of the national government.
The President and his sister fall under the Public Ethics Law, which obliges them to present their sworn statements once a year. On July 31, the deadline for officials to update their assets, the Mileis had already complied – the President registered his presentation on July 25 and his sister the day before.
The President declared assets of 206,046,375 pesos representing 80,405,484.03 pesos more than the 2023 fiscal period, mostly explained by the revaluation of existing assets (54,546,101.49 pesos) while a lesser percentage responds to a real increase of his income. The economist did not declare any debts. In the category of income, Milei registered a net total of 99.696.510 pesos.
Around a half corresponds to the item “Income from companies and commercial assistance” (52,124,097.65 pesos) and the other half “Income from personal work” (47,572,412.35 pesos).
At the close of the 2024 period, Milei declared only one real estate property in the City of Buenos Aires, the same one as in 2023 – a house of 100 square metres valued at 38,419,071.20 pesos. The property had been greatly revalued since in his previous presentation its value was 13,657,100.16 pesos, an increase of 181 percent.
In the category of cars, the President declared ownership of a Mercedes Benz Sprinter model 2015, valued at 20,173,600 pesos and a Peugeot RCZ Coupé model 2013, whose value is 16,254,200 pesos.
Milei also has peso deposits in this country: one of 13,095,495 and the other of 7,074,524 pesos. The accounts total 20,170,019 pesos, 140.6 percent more than the declared sum for 2023, when those deposits were 8,382,668 pesos. In cash the President declared 680,000 pesos while in the previous period he had only reported 10,000.
There was no variation in the dollar deposits with the President declaring a savings account of US$65,542,49. The difference is in the exchange rate between the two periods with the local equivalent passing from 52,775,395.64 to 67,443,222.21 pesos between 2023 and 2024. Milei did not inform of any changes in cash either with the same US$20,000 as the previous year.
In the category “Household goods” there were no significant changes either – the statement for 2024 reports a total of 2,983,953.56 pesos as against 2,223,330.01 in 2023. One variation was the fiscal credit with AFIP tax bureau, which passed from 5,959,897.64 to 19,342,309.51 pesos, an increase of 224.5 percent.
The assets of the presidential chief-of-staff increased by 221 percent. The jump is explained by registering her earnings as a national state official. The total assets reported by Karina in 2023 had been 3,548,270.42 pesos while at the close of last year it was 11,401,021.93 pesos.
The official declared income from personal work to be 45,663,223.11 pesos. After subtracting personal expenses and deductions, the figure is 35,752,225.78 pesos.
The President’s sister did not acquire property. Her flat of 150 square metres in Vicente López was revalued by 117 percent, passing from 1,833,559.24 to 3,992,825.14 pesos.
Furthermore, Karina declared a major increase in her peso liquidity, passing from the 239,921 pesos declared in 2023 to 4,391,379.38 pesos while reporting 500,000 pesos in cash. Her savings in dollars stayed the same at US$76.79. In this period the official also dissolved the fixed-term deposit of 455,605 pesos which she had declared in the past.
Her fiscal credits increased from 851,865.29 to 2,412,777.03 pesos while finally, in the category of “Household goods”, Karina declared a total of 25,023.47 pesos while in 2023 it had been 5,000 pesos.
