Multiple Fatalities, Including Children, After Tour Bus Crashes In New York State

A tragic accident occurred on August 22, 2025, when a tour bus returning to New York City from Niagara Falls lost control and overturned on Interstate 90 near Pembroke, New York. The bus, carrying 52 passengers and the driver, veered off the highway, resulting in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries.

According to New York State Police spokesperson James O’Callaghan, the bus was traveling eastbound when it entered the median, overcorrected, and ended up in a ditch. “At this time, we have multiple fatalities, multiple entrapments, and multiple injuries,” O’Callaghan stated. He also confirmed that children were among the victims.

Witnesses reported seeing the bus lose control, cross into the median, and overturn onto the southern shoulder. Several passengers were ejected from the vehicle as windows shattered, while others remained trapped inside the wreckage. Emergency responders, including medical helicopters, transported the injured to nearby hospitals.

The majority of the passengers were of Indian, Chinese, and Filipino descent. Authorities are coordinating with translators to assist in communication and investigation efforts. The driver survived the crash and is cooperating with officials to determine the cause of the accident.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul expressed her condolences, stating, “I have been briefed on the tragic tour bus accident on the New York State Thruway. My team is coordinating closely with the New York State Police and local officials who are working to rescue and provide assistance to everyone involved.”

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the factors that led to this devastating incident. The New York State Thruway Authority has closed the highway in both directions near the crash site, urging drivers to seek alternative routes.
