Watch: Brennan kicks crucial goal

3QT: Essendon 3.6 (30) to Richmond 3.6 (24)

The impressive Emelia Yassir has booted a clutch goal just seconds before the siren to keep her side within reach of Essendon going into the last term.

Yassir had to show some poise grabbing the loose ball while running away from goal but she held her nerve and kicked truly.

There is one goal in it with a quarter to play.

Brennan hurting

Tigers star Katie Brennan is battling on despite taking what appeared to be a painful injury to her hand.

Brennan was in clear pain after she was on the ground, battling for the ball when it appeared her hand was accidentally stood on.

He was ruefully flexing her hand and looked in so much pain but she still used her other hand to compete in some contests for the all.

It will take more than that to force her off.

Dons 29, Tigers 18 with two mins to go in Q3.

Dons respond immediately

Madi Prespakis sent a deft chip kick into the path of Georgia Gee who grabbed it in stride and ran into an open goal.

The Dons were challenged and they withstood it but the Tigers continue to attack.

This could be a cracking finish to this game.

Brennan shows her class

Tigers veteran Katie Brennan has shown her years of experience taking a handball from a teammate and smartly kicking the ball low into the goals.

First-gamer Sierra Grieves sent in a long, quality kick despite the humid conditions that led to the goals.

She looks a player.

Tough going this term

The ball has turned into a wet bar of soap this quarter and few players are getting any purchase on their kicks or are clutching their marks.

We’ve seen this issue before in the AFL men’s competition as well – it will be telling if either side can find an avenue to goal considering we are almost 10 minutes into the third term and only had one shot go near the goals.

HT: Essendon 3.4 (22) to Richmond 1.3 (9)

Richmond are playing with passion but they paid dearly for missing two very makeable shots during that second term.

Poppy Kelly and Paige Scott both had shots at goal from just above the square but both had their kicks spray wide – in their defence the ball appears to be very slippery due to the humidity.

Scott’s drive and passion has helped spur her side on, especially with that first term goal.

The Dons are in charge as both teams take a break from the conditions.

Dons still on top

Dons coach Natalie Wood said at quarter time that she backed her side to have the fitness to play out every quarter tonight despite the hot conditions.

They have lived up to her prediction so far but haven’t finished their good work.

Katie Brennan was just wrapped up in a powerful tackle from Maggie Maclachlan, yet the Dons couldn’t push the ball forward after it.
