
Moving tributes were paid to a teenage girl by her heartbroken family, friends, and a devastated community at a funeral service held following the tragic death of a Tipperary woman who became ill at a music festival.
Huge crowds gathered in Carrick-on-Suir at St Nicholas’ Church on Saturday morning to comfort the heartbroken family of Mia Keevan ,who fell ill at the Emerge music festival in Belfast last Sunday.

Among the mourners were her mother Debbie, sisters Kyah, Jade and Sophia also Philly who held a special place in her life; her grandparents Marie and Eddie, Angela and Noel, and Tonnie; her boyfriend Jack; sisters’ partners Jamie and Nathan; best friends Ella, Jayden and Keeley; aunts, uncles, extended family and her wide circle of friends.
Mia, who lived in Ard Mhuire with her family,was predeceased by her father Alan and her aunt Jacinta.
While her funeral mass on Saturday at 10.30am in St Nicholas’ Church was a solemn occasion, it was brightened up by so many of her family and friends wearing light/bright coloured clothing as had been requested.
In an emotional tribute, her sister Kyah said that Mia’s spirit, laughter, honesty, dreams and love would never leave them.
She said that Mia had big dreams, some of which had already come true. She said that Mia was in her happiest place over the last few months. Mia had just received possession of her first car, she was with her boyfriend Jack, and she was so close to her 18th birthday.
“Everything was falling into place for her,” said Kyah.
Kyah said that Mia never held a grudge; she loved deeply and was fiercely loyal. What happened was tragic, and no words can make sense of it,” Kyah told mourners.
She said that Mia was full of life and would tell you exactly what she thought of you. She said Mia was unique and had a very special way of making people laugh.
Kyah said the family greatly appreciated the support shown by so many people in Carrick-on-Suir and beyond over the last few days. She thanked people for their kindness and their understanding.
Following the tragedy,a friend of the family,Sarah Roche, set up a GoFundMe page to support the family cover the funeral costs.
Donations have been made to the GoFundMe page which states that Mia was “A bright, fun and much loved girl who touched the hearts of anyone that knew her. Mia was such an outgoing person and lit up every room she walked into.
“Her laughter and warmth will never be forgotten by those lucky enough to have known her. At this difficult time we are coming together to support Mia’s family with the unexpected costs they face and to give them space to grieve without added financial worry. Any donation will make a difference and is deeply appreciated.”
Earlier in the week tributes were paid to the girl and her family.

Cllr David Dunne said there was a huge sense of shock in the town at yet another tragedy.
“There is a huge shock in the town. It is a parents worst nightmare, no parent who sends their child off to a concert expects them not to come home,” said Cllr Dunne.
He said there was huge shock in the town as this tragedy came so quickly following the murder of Ian Walsh and the tragic death by drowning of another young man in the town.
