Gogglebox’s Dave and Shirley took to social media to make an announcement as the popular Channel 4 programme will return to screens this week. Gogglebox fans “can’t wait” as they have missed their weekly instalment over the summer of some of the nation’s favourite armchair critics giving their opinions our favourite telly.
The Welsh couple first joined the programme in 2015 and it didn’t take them long to become firm favourites with their hilarious observations on the week’s best TV.
Dave and Shirley, who have been married for 49 years, have had fans in stitches thanks to their iconic one-liners over the past decade. They were last seen on screen in May this year, when the 25th series aired.
In a post on Instagram, the couple confirmed the news that Gogglebox will return this Friday. In a video posted to their social media account, Dave said: “Hi everybody, just a little message to remind everybody that Gogglebox is back on September, 5, Friday night, Channel 4, 9pm.”
Shirley added: “So why don’t you all come and join us on the settee to watch a bit of telly. See you all Friday.” Fans rushed to the comments to express their excitement over the return of the show.

One fan said: “Can’t wait” while another added: “Woohoo.” Another follower called Beverley wrote: “Good to see you both, my faves.” A fourth added: “Can’t wait! I’ve missed you!” Heather also said: “Yay. My Friday nights are not the same since Gogglebox went off air!”
Dave and Shirley aren’t the only Gogglebox stars to speak of the show’s return this week. Another fan-favourite couple, Jenny and Lee, took to social media to share their own update.
They captioned the post: “Sorry folks you’ll have to put up with us two again, see ya Friday.” In the video, Lee shared: “Hi everybody, I need to make this announcement.” Jenny soon appeared as she chimed in: “We’re back!”
Lee joked: “That’s what I was about to f****** say! Yes we’re back guys. Series 26.” Jenny added: “We can’t wait, and we’ve got an extra week! See you on Friday, get the kettle on.”

The 26th series kickstarts on Friday, and viewers are already aware of some casting changes. Roisin Kelly and Joe Kyle were the first Scots to appear on Gogglebox in over six years but will not be returning to our screens for the new series of the show.
The couple, who live together in Glasgow, joined the 19th series of the show back in 2022 and ever since, they’ve been making viewers laugh with their sense of humour and witty comments. They have been together for seven years after they started dating in 2018.
The couple announced the news on TikTok and a statement from Roisin said: “After three and a half years of sitting on the sofa, Channel 4 have decided it’s time for Joe and I to stretch our legs and have not asked us back for season 26.
“Therefore we are leaving the Gogglebox family. We couldn’t be more grateful to Studio Lambert for the opportunity, the experience has actually been so mad and we will miss watching TV with you all on Friday nights!
“It’s been an honour to represent Scotland as some of the first Scottish people on the show and prove we don’t actually need subtitles.”
One comment said: “Love you and Joe on Gogglebox. Won’t be the same without you.” Marie added: “No way definitely the best in there we love you and Joe.”
Another user wrote: “Wait. I have just re-read your statement, they let you go? So sorry, I like the regional aspect, the counties and countries represented. UK isn’t just London. Lots of luck for your next adventure.”
Another agreed: “No, loved watching you and Joe. You are a lovely couple and flying the flag for Glasgow. Channel 4 have made a boo-boo here. We will miss you.”
A Channel 4 spokesperson issued a statement about letting go of the Scottish couple. It said: “We thank Joe and Roisin for their contributions to Gogglebox over the years, and wish them all the best for the future.”
Gogglebox returns this Friday at 9pm on Channel 4
