Gogglebox returned for its new series on Friday night, going strong after 12 years on Channel 4.

There were some big changes for the 26th outing, with five new families announced to be joining the show.

During the first episode we were only introduced to four of the new arrivals – including friends Jake, 27, and Calum, 31, from Glasgow.

We also met Sara, 87, who is now the show’s oldest participant, and daughter-in-law Lara, 58, from Yorkshire.

Other new arrivals are the Gordon family, from Surrey, made up of mum and dad Andre, 49, and Sarah, 47, with their daughter Chee, 25, and married couple Andrew, 62, and Alfie, 32, from the Cotswolds.

We have yet to meet sisters Rosie, 68, and Susie, 70, from Edinburgh.

But what did we find out about the newest couples during the first episode of the series?

Sara and Lara

Sara and daughter-in-law Lara, from Yorkshire, were featured a lot on the first episode.

Sara, the show’s oldest participant at 87, made an intimate confession. As they watched a steamy scene, she admitted: “I do read a lot of rumpy pumpy novels…because they help me go sleep.”

She also revealed she has a daschund dog.

Lara showcased her bold style, wearing large yellow-framed glasses and a matching yellow top for her first outing on the Channel 4 show.

And we know she has her hands full. We were quickly introduced to her puppies, who are named after colours including orange, pink, green, yellow and brown.

Sara said: “This house at the minute is bonkers. I’ve got six puppies, a labrador and two Tibetan terriers.”

But the puppies may not be around for long, as Lara said: “You’re here for one more week and then you go.” She said she may keep one though, so we could still get some more sightings in the future.

Lara revealed she was “naughty” at school, and it caused rumbles when she joined the family.

She said: “I was at school with both of my sister in laws, so when I turned up to marry their brother it was their deepest darkest nightmare wasn’t it?”

Sara replied: “Well it was quite weird I must admit.”

Andrew and Alfie on Gogglebox

Andrew and Alfie

Married couple Andrew, 62, and Alfie, 32, live in the Cotwswolds, and their large stone home looked rather posh.

We found out that there is a bit of a pigeon problem where they live as the pair gossiped about a neighbourhood WhatsApp group.

Alfie told his partner: “Someone in one of the big houses has been called out for potentially promoting the feral cats to cull off the pigeon population.”

He then admitted: “To be fair there are a lot of pigeons in the village.”

We don’t know what either do for jobs yet, but Andrew revealed Alfie had once said he was going to start a ‘happy news channel’.

The couple also gave an insight in their relationship as they settled in to watch one show.

Alfie stated: “We do love a good drama don’t we darling?” Andrew confirmed: “We love a good drama – less drama in our house, more drama on tele.”

The Gordons

Andre, 49, and Sarah, 47, and their daughter Chee, 25, are from Surrey.

We already know they love their food, with their opening scenes showing the family debating over who was the best cook.

“Whose oxtail do you love the most in this house?” Andre asked his daughter.

Chee replied: “I have to give it to dad, I do have to give it to dad.” But she then stirred the pot, adding: “Mum’s curry goat is better than yours.”

“Never, never, never,” Andre insisted. “Next time I’m cooking you can have chicken kiev,” he joked.

The family appeared to be healthy eating, judging by their snacks of popcorn, raspberries and grapes.

Jake and Callum are two new members of the Gogglebox cast

Jake and Callum

Jake revealed he ‘cannot bake or cook at all’ as the pals settled in to watch the Great British Bake Off.

And they both admitted they fancied Davina McCall as they watched her new show Stranded on Honeymoon Island.

While they didn’t tell us their jobs away from the show, Callum revealed he is a very early riser, getting up at 5.30am each day.

“I had to buy myself an alarm clock that will ring at the other side of the room,” he said, hinting at a job that requires him to be up and moving before most of us.

“But once you’re up, you get up before the rest of the city does.”
