Local residents advertise homes for ‘eye-watering’ prices ahead of Ryder Cup 2027

Local residents who rent their homes during the Ryder Cup 2027 could make up to €25,600 in a week through official channels, while properties listed on unofficial websites could triple that income.

As areas in Limerick are being adorned with Ryder Cup branding, excitement is already building up for the next tournament, set to take place in Adare Manor in 2027.

It will be the second time the Ryder Cup will be held on Irish soil, from September 12 to 20, 2027.

Those wishing to seize the momentum and rent their homes during the week of the tournament could make up to €25,600 depending on the standard of the property and its close proximity to Adare Manor.

For example, the owner of an “exceptional” four-bedroom property within walking distance of the resort has been advised they could charge €6,400 per bedroom.

Meanwhile, that price tag goes down to €12,800 for the entire property if it is more than an hour’s drive from Adare Manor.

Homeowners with a four-bedroom property deemed “good” (three stars) could earn up to €15,400 a week if they are close to Adare Manor. And if they are a 60-minute drive away, they could still earn €7,800 a week.

Those who registered their interest through the competition’s official property rental programme, Ryder Cup Travel Services, received an email disclosing the recommended prices — depending on the standing and location of their property.

The minimum requirement to sign up is a two-bedroom accommodation.

The property registration portal will be open this October, and properties may be rented at any point between November 2025 and September 2027.

Meanwhile, on unofficial channels, homeowners across Ireland are looking to rent their property for extortionate prices to those looking to attend the Ryder Cup 2027.

In Limerick city, a four bedroom property is advertised for €50,000 to “experience the Ryder Cup” in style — with the possibility to book a second week at a discounted rate of €25,000. The same property is currently being advertised on Daft.ie for €3,500 a month.

A four-bedroom house in Killaloe, Co Clare, said to be located “45 minutes from Shannon Airport” has been advertised for €60,000.

Another five-bedroom house in Killarney, located an hour away from Adare Manor, is available for €45,000. The property is said to be attached to lands which can facilitate a “helicopter landing if necessary”.

Meanwhile, a cruiser boat located in Banagher, Co Offaly, has also been advertised on the website — with the price only being available on application.

One of the priciest tags is for a “Ryder Cup ready” countryside home in Tipperary, going for €89,000. “Travel to and from Adare can be arranged on request, as can local tours and additional services such as catering,” reads the advertisement.

Adare Manor has encouraged the public not to book accommodation until they have secured their Ryder Cup tickets, and have indicated Ryder Cup Travel Services is the only authorised platform.

The Irish Examiner took a quick snapshot of people in the area, but most said they either don’t own a home, or were afraid of the consequences of subletting their accommodation. A reflection of the housing crisis in Limerick, there are only 48 properties currently available to rent county-wide.

According to Limerick TD Conor Sheehan, the “eye-watering prices” reflect the level of interest in the tournament.

A home in Tipperary advertised for €89,000 during the Ryder Cup 2027.

However, he said concerns should be raised as to how the offers are being regulated.

“If you were to kick out your renters in order to rent your house for the Ryder Cup for whatever period of time, I think that’s totally unethical,” he told the Irish Examiner.

“The RTB must ensure that if anybody is renting out their home, that they’re not doing it in an unethical way that involves kicking renters, who are the most vulnerable people in the housing market, out of their homes.

“The availability of the properties themselves for a very short-to-limited time period doesn’t particularly surprise me because there are people who may have holiday homes or may decide to rent out their primary residence and move in with a family member for a number of weeks.”

Fundamentally, he said the Ryder Cup coming to Limerick was a “good thing”.

“It’ll do fantastic things for our local economy, but I will be talking to the Limerick City and County Council to make sure that they mount a comprehensive information campaign as well, and that RTB are making sure that when people are booking accommodation, they can make sure that their accommodation is genuine and they’re not scammed,” he said.

A spokesperson for the Department of Enterprise, Tourism, and Employment said: “Businesses need to be able to make a profit, but they must also pay attention to their pricing and how they can continue to deliver added value.”

“Commercial decisions, such as pricing, are the sole responsibility of business owners. These pricing decisions are driven by a combination of factors, including the costs that need to be recovered and the competitive price the market will bear.

“While there is fair value to be had in tourism accommodation, there are specific price spikes at specific times and locations, often coinciding with concerts and sporting events.

“These spikes … have the potential to cause reputational damage for the sector.”
