Caddies’ Dream becomes liquid reality with new single malt release

A family-owned distillery with deep roots in the game in the game of golf has launched a limited run of a 10-year-old single cask to coincide with this weekend’s Dunhill Links Championship.
Caddies’ Dream is the work of Wemyss Family Spirits, the St Andrews firm behind Kingsbarns Distillery, and marks the first time a Kingsbarns expression has taken direct inspiration from the sport of golf. The name was inspired by co-founder Douglas Clement’s time as a caddie at Kingsbarns Links, where he first imagined creating a single malt for visitors to enjoy.
“I still remember golfers asking me, time and again, where they could find a local distillery tour,” Mr Clement said. “At the time, there was nothing nearby, the closest options were an hour away in Perthshire or south of Edinburgh.
“That lack of a local whisky experience planted the seed for what would become Kingsbarns. From a speculative email over a decade ago to raising a dram in the town that started it all, Caddies’ Dream is a celebration of how far we’ve come.”

Golf fans have been offered the chance to play some of the world’s most prestigious courses – including the invitation-only Oakmont, Indian Creek and Winged Foot clubs in the United States – as part of the University of Stirling’s annual golf auction.
Other lots in the auction, now in its second year, include rounds at Augusta Country Club, Gleneagles, Royal Portrush, Turnberry and Sunningdale. Proceeds will support the university’s high-performance golf programme, which is recognised as one of the most attractive destinations for student golfers in Europe.
“Our golf auction is back bigger and better than before, with a number of premium lots available to bidders,” said David Bond, director of performance sport at the university. “We have rounds at some of the world’s best courses available, including exclusive private members’ clubs both here in the UK and abroad.
“This is an excellent opportunity for groups of friends to come together to book a round of a lifetime, or to treat the golf enthusiasts in your life to an exclusive experience.”
The auction closes at 8pm (BST) tonight (October 5).

Greenkeepers from two Scottish golf courses have been chosen to represent the UK at a major industry trade show in the United States.
Ryan Gall of Loch Lomond and Stuart Fergusson of Trump Turnberry are among the 10-man cohort selected by BIGGA, the British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association, to take part in February’s conference and trade show hosted by the Golf Course Superintendent Association of America (GCSAA).
The week-long trip to Orlando, Florida, features site visits as well as seminars, networking events and educational demonstrations. The delegates will also be invited to convene at the BIGGA Turf Management Exhibition in January, where they will meet former participants in the programme.
“I’m absolutely delighted to have been selected to be part of the delegation,” Mr Gall said. “To be chosen is a massive career achievement for me and I feel incredibly proud to be part of such a prestigious group.
“I’m really looking forward to experiencing the event first-hand, meeting greenkeepers and industry leaders from around the world, and seeing the very latest innovations in turf management.”
