Holiday season is coming up which means family and friends will be bringing out the board games for some healthy competition. If, like me you’re a fan of true crime, and fancy yourself as one of the detectives on Channel 4’s 24 Hours In Police Custody, the viral Cryptic Killers Unsolved murder mystery game has been dropped to £16.99 from £25 on Amazon, saving buyers 32%. Please note it’s not affiliated with the aforementioned show.

The basis of the Cryptic Killers game is surrounded around a murder in the town of Redmond UK where the body of a millionaire lottery winner, Chole Whittle was found with a deadly stab wound to the chest. Throughout the game, players must step into the role of detective to find the criminal and bring them to justice.

Inside the case file is 29 pieces of physical evidence including: a newspaper, crime scene investigation photographs, receipts, betting slips, police reports, train times, CCTV footage, phone and text records, a coroners report, a map, witness statement, photographs and more, so there is more than enough tools to help find the killer. For those who need to step it up a notch, they will also have to access an online police officer’s inbox to prove the suspects innocence or guilt, but according to the website, players will need to be a ‘smart investigator to gain access.’

Taking around two hours to complete the Cryptic Killers game, it has been rated 3.5 out of 5 in terms of difficulty and it is sure to add some excitement and fun to parties. If shoppers love CSI or murder mystery, this is the game to get them and their friends who have to be over 14 to play, entertained for a night.

For an alternative, buyers could also grab the original Hasbro Monopoly for £22 from Argos. This classic is a family fun game that has one goal: get rich and win.

It comes along with all the needed pieces including 8 metal tokens, 18 deed cards, 16 chance cards, 16 community chest cards, 32 houses, 12 hotels, 2 dice, a storage tray, money pack and game guide. It’s suitable for ages eight and over and only needs minimum to two people to play successfully.

“Complex enough to make you think but solvable with logical thinking and communication. Recommend you go full Sherlock and have a notebook handy and I will definitely be buying more cases to solve.”

Some players did have different views however for example one person commented: “Thoroughly enjoyed doing this, but unfortunately it only took us 40 minutes.” Another person said: “This is the second pack I’ve done and I enjoy these a lot, they offer a lot of entertainment and take the expected time to solve. I really wish it wasn’t always a twist ending but overall I’d recommend.”
