A new series, touted as ‘one of the best shows of the year’ and a ‘ridiculously addictive thriller’, which has garnered a perfect score, is now available for streaming.

The Chair Company makes its premiere on Sky Comedy and is also accessible on the NOW platform for those with an entertainment pass.

The show is the brainchild of former Saturday Night Live writers Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin, who are also behind the Netflix cult favourite sketch show I Think You Should Leave. This time around, they’re delivering what’s being described as a complex mystery-comedy.

Per the show’s cryptic synopsis, after an embarrassing incident at work, William Ronald “Ron” Trosper (Robinson) finds himself unravelling a wide-ranging conspiracy. The creators have kept mum about the show’s plot, preferring fans to uncover all the unexpected twists and turns themselves.

Joining Robinson in the cast, who recently starred in the Paul Rudd film Friendship, are The Practice star Lake Bell, IT Part One’s Sophia Lillis, Will Price and Lou Diamond Phillips, reports the Mirror.

Before its debut in the US and UK, it has already secured a flawless 100% rating on the website Rotten Tomatoes. One critic simply stated: “One of the best shows of the year, The Chair Company will have you sinking in your recliner.”

Another viewer remarked: “The Chair Company is one of the most offbeat and outlandish shows you’ll see this year.”

A separate review noted: “There is nothing quite like The Chair Company: a show that is emotionally potent while still delivering the perfect marriage between sketch comedy and conspiracy theory.”

The sole drawback for viewers might be that the series is set to drop episodes weekly, with the debut available from October 13. According to IMDB details, fresh episodes will arrive every Sunday in America and Monday in Britain.

This schedule means the final episode will broadcast on November 30. Fans will face a choice between watching immediately upon release or holding off for a complete binge-watch experience, as the programme works far better when consumed in one go.

This assessment comes from a journalist who has previewed the opening seven episodes and found them utterly captivating.

It serves as an ideal substitute for anyone who appreciated fast-paced thrillers or quirky comedies from recent months. This encompasses Severance, Paradise, Slow Horses, Dept. Q, The Studio and The Rehearsal.

The Chair Company cranks the tension to completely absurd heights whilst mocking how even the finest examples in the genre create the most surprising connections and narrative jumps. In doing so, it also carries on the approach of Tim Robinson’s brilliantly devised sketch show concept of magnifying minor misunderstandings or social blunders to an absurd degree.

Picture the conspiracy excitement of Severance combined with the cringe-worthy comedy of Nathan Fielder or Larry David.

The series becomes so peculiar and captivating that you’re held in its clutches, eager to discover where the eight-part series will lead. The programme demonstrates that Robinson and his team can indeed expand a sketch idea into a full-length series, whilst keeping it engaging and packed with the memorable character moments they’re renowned for.
