Wallabies’s takeaways
A win is a win, that can’t be denied.
There was nothing polished about the Wallabies’s performance, but they impressively dug deep when under pressure from the Brave Blossoms in the second half.
Joe Schmidt’s decision to rest players and use others — such as regular skipper Harry Wilson — off the bench could have backfired.
But the opportunity to build a case for selection later in the tour was made by the likes of Hunter Paisami, while Jake Gordon showed the benefit of experience in the key role of scrum half.
Some concerns for the Wallabies, though, with Lukhan Salakaia-Loto and Josh Canham in the casualty ward.
Still, a positive start made to their five-Test tour ahead of their trek to Europe.

FT: WALLABIES WIN!!!!
WALLABIES WIN 19-15!!!
What a tight finish!
The Walllabies were awarded a penalty in the shadows of full-time and were able to hold onto possession through a series of phases until the hooter sounded.
The Brave Blossoms put up an almighty fight, especially in the second half.
The result is vindication for Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt’s decision to field an understrength line-up.
Schmidt made the decision with the remaining four Tests of the tour in mind.
But credit to Eddie Jones’s Brave Blossoms, who came close to recording their first win over the Wallabies.
The wet conditions didn’t help either side, and the Wallabies were able to look to their wiser heads late in the match to seal the result.

The Wallabies are being guided by the experience of Harry Wilson and Jake Gordon as they look to shut down the match.
But the Brave Blossoms aren’t going anywhere, having enjoyed entries inside the Wallabies’s half.
Their most recent, though, ended with the ball in touch, when they took play to the left edge.

Are the Brave Blossoms daring to dream?
They’ve never defeated the Wallabies — is today the day?
Credit to the hosts, they have grown in confidence since they opened their try account with Shuhei Takeuchi’s effort earlier in the half.

61′ Japan replies with second try!
Australian-raised Ben Gunter scores for Japan!
The Brave Blossoms pushed towards the Wallabies’s goal line and it was Gunter who came away with a five-pointer.
The TMO Richard Kelly wanted to check for a possible knock-on and there appeared to be a communication issue with referee Ben O’Keeffe but the try was awarded.
The conversion was added and it’s the Wallabies ahead by only four points.

57′ Tizzano FINALLY SCORES!
Carlo Tizzano scores for the Wallabies from a driving maul!
Shuhei Takeuchi’s try for Japan seemed to snap the Wallabies out of a brief slumber.
They soon earned field position and went to touch from a penalty close to the Brave Blossoms’s goal line.
From a driving maul, Tizzano got the ball down across the stripe to restore the Wallabies’ 11-point lead.
The conversion atttempt, though, went astray.
Good things come to those who wait!

Japan is over!
Prop Shuhei Takeuchi breaks through close to the Wallabies’s line to give his side their first try.
The hosts had won a line-out off their own throw inside the Wallabies’s 22.
They launched a series of attacking raids before Takeuchi split the defensive line for a much-needed try.
Alas, the conversion attempt was unsuccessful and it’s the Wallabies leading 14-8.

Japan, with ball in hand, had the Wallabies under considerable pressure inside the visitors’ 22.
But a crunching tackle from Wallabies skipper Nick Champion de Crespigny turned the ball over and his side was able to breathe a sigh of relief.

46′ Wallabies hold firm in their 22
The Brave Blossoms made a rare entry inside the Wallabies’s 22.
Thye had a line-out throw but it was their turn this time to lose the ball and hand possession back to the tourists.

44′ Wallabies waste field position
The Wallabies have had the better of field position early in the second half.
A penalty allowed Tane Edmed to kick for touch, giving the Wallabies a line-out throw on the Japanese 22.
But the ball went the way of the Brave Blossoms via a Wallabies’s overthrow.
