Channel 4 has altered the name of their musical production featuring Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor following the disgraced royal’s formal removal of titles.

King Charles took the decision to officially strip his brother of his honours on Thursday after Andrew, 65, came under fire from MPs and faced public outrage over his connections to paedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, along with claims he sexually assaulted Virginia Giuffre.

Andrew has consistently refuted the allegations made against him.

This week saw the announcement that Andrew would lose his Royal designation, prompting Channel 4, who launched Prince Andrew: The Musical in 2022, to make a corresponding change.

Prince Andrew: The Musical will henceforth be titled Andrew: The Musical, reports the Mirror.

Fresh promotional artwork now features a line struck through the word Prince, whilst the programme’s licence has been renewed on the broadcaster’s streaming platform.

Channel 4 commented: “Formal approval has been served to allow the lease to be extended, and to allow audiences to continue to watch this programme for a peppercorn rent.

“These censures are deemed necessary, in light of recent news and announcements from The Palace.”

Andrew: The Musical joins a lengthy series of satirical productions targeting the Royal family, following in the footsteps of Channel4’s comedy The Windsors, which also received its own West End musical treatment.

The Channel 4 show features Kieran Hodgson in the leading role alongside a ensemble of comedians and drag performers, presenting pivotal moments from Andrew’s life – including that notorious Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis – through a comedic lens.

When it first aired, audiences were split and flocked to social media to voice their thoughts.

Heading to Twitter, viewers shared their reactions to the musical – which also featured Munya Chawawa as Prince Charles and comedian Jenny Bede as Sarah Ferguson, Andrew’s former spouse – with one declaring: “I thought was brilliant TV.

“People forget he got away with it and all the royal family want is for it to go away. Well done #channel4 comedy satire is this. It hits where it hurts and gets results. Loved it. Beautifully done”.

However, another commented: “I must be getting old. This is so dreadful, disrespectful, dire . I really thought it was poor in subject and conviction,” whilst another fumed: “Waste of time, money and airtime, utter rubbish . Best part was the profiterole I could just go one of those now.”

A further viewer remarked: “The Prince Andrew musical on @Channel4 is ever-so faintly rubbish . Dreary songs, tabloidy. The idea is better than the execution. Over to Madonna night on BBC Two!”

A Buckingham Palace statement read: “His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew.

“Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence.

“Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.

“Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”

Andrew’s departure from his luxurious residence follows just weeks after he also relinquished his Duke of York title prior to the release of Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir.

Following his announcement to surrender his titles, Andrew was additionally caught misleading the public about severing ties with the late convicted paedophile Epstein.

During his disastrous 2019 BBC Newsnight interview, he insisted he had ended all communication with Epstein in 2010 – however, correspondence subsequently emerged showing they remained in contact twelve months later.

During the interview, Andrew also stated he had no memory of encountering his accuser Ms Giuffre. In 2021, she brought legal proceedings against him, which Andrew resolved through an out-of-court settlement for a reported £12million, whilst maintaining his innocence.

Ms Giuffre took her own life in April this year.
