8th over – Amanjot Kaur into the attack

First bowling change, but India sticking with the seamers for now.

Brits clips off the pads for two.

7th over – Thakur will bowl a fourth over

It may have been a sluggish start for South Africa, but crucially they haven’t lost a wicket yet. Might be time to make a move.

SIX! Yep, it sure might! Brits goes straight back over the bowler’s head and all the way for six, wonderful shot.

Only one more single is managed after that big shot though. South Africa ticking along.

6th over – Kranti will continue

SHOT! That’s better from Wolvaardt. She walks at Kranti and plays a commanding pull shot for four. Much better.

Main difference between the two sides so far has been the ease of singles. South Africa is only just starting to find runs easily, picking up a few either side of the wicket in this over.

Eight off the over, as the run-rate bumps up just above four.

5th over – Thakur again

South Africa is wasting the powerplay here.

Wides doing the bulk of the scoring. Another one slips down the leg side.

FOUR RUNS! Wolvaardt needed that. It wasn’t a convincing stroke, toed away through square leg on the slog, but they all count. Can that get her going?

CLOSE! India put a fielder in right on the pitch on the on-side for Brits, and it nearly worked straight away. The mis-timed drive fell just short of Rodrigues’s dive.

Over bowled.

4th over – Kranti in again

Brits advances at the bowler but can only get a thick inside edge to fine leg for one. Then Wolvaardt drives to the off-side sweep for another single.

And then that’s it! South Africa really struggling to score in these early overs, in stark contrast to the electric start made by India.

3rd over – Thakur steaming in again

Another wide, this one fumbled away by the keeper. Two to the scorecard.

BIG SHOUT! Two in a row in fact, for LBW. The first was a definite no but the second was much closer. After a little debate, Kaur decides to review.

A lot has to go right for Thakur here because she is swinging it into Brits so sharply.

Going down leg! India loses a review, though it was a tight one.

Two runs and a bit of excitement from that over. South Africa yet to get going.

2nd over – Kranti Gaud from the other end

Going back a few hours, India made such an electric start with the bat but in the end failed to 100 per cent capitalise on that. South Africa may look to pace its innings a bit differently as a result – though a good start remains essential.

FOUR! Brits is off the mark and releases the shackles with a beautiful straight drive to the fence. As good as any shot played today.

Six off the over thanks to a sneaky wide in there.

1st over – Renuka Singh Thakur has the brand new ball

Okie dokie, let’s do a run chase. Laura Woolvardt is on strike, Tazmin Brits at the other end and Thakur has the ball. South Africa needs 299 to win the World Cup. Here we go.

India has started with a deep point in place, and good thing too becake Woolvardt just laced one straight to her to get off the mark with a single.

That single was the only run from the opening over, with Thakur’s inswingers proving tough to get away.

End of innings: India 7-298

(Getty Images)

That was a really intriguing 50 overs of cricket.

India, after being sent in, absolutely flew out of the blocks, with Smrti Mandhana and Shalafi Verma combining for an outstanding 104 run opening stand.

But from there, the South African bowlers found their line and made the most of a pitch that was offering a whole lot less than Laura Woolvardt might’ve imagined it would when she won the toss.

Nonkululeko Mlaba was particularly outstanding for the Proteas – she was the first to wrestle back some momentum at the top end of the innings, and held her nerve throughout, ending with figures of 1-47 from her 10.

However – this is still a big score, and one that India will feel they can defend.

Throughout this tournament, we’ve seen two South African teams with the bat. One of them smashed 319 against England on Wednesday, and the other got bowled out for 97 against Australia and 67 against England in the pool phase.

The World Cup final will be decided by which one of them turns up after the break.

50th over – De Klerk to wrap things up

It’s a slower ball to begin from Nadie De Klerk, which Deepti Sharma works for a single.

Radha Yadav returns the favour on her first ball.

Bottom edge! It flies past the stumps and through the keeper’s legs and the batters run a single.

Can India reach 300?

They have two balls to score four more runs.

Deepti tries to clear the long-on boundary, but doesn’t get enough of it. It bounces well short of the fielder and it’s just a single.

Yadav to face the final ball of the innings…

It’s a big full toss, a big swing and Yadav’s bat goes flying towards cover.

The batters run a single to end the innings.

Out! Khaka strikes!

Richa Ghosh shovels a straight one out to deep backward square.

She’s trying to get it over the rope but doesn’t get anywhere near enough of it.

It’s a good catch 10 metres in from the boundary.

1h agoSun 2 Nov 2025 at 2:48pm

49th over – Khaka to bowl it

It’s an excellent start to the penultimate over of the innings from Khaka. Full and straight and dropping, Richa Ghosh is only able to work a single from the third ball of the over.

Four! Too full this time from Khaka and Deepti just flays it over the covers. Good shot.

This one is a lot straighter and the batters run a single to deep backward square leg.

1h agoSun 2 Nov 2025 at 2:39pm

48th over – Kapp to bowl out

It’s a very well executed slower ball yorker to begin. Ghosh digs it out but that’s a dot.

Ghosh decides to dance forward – but it’s a bit too obvious, and Kapp bowls one into her body for another dot.

Beautiful! Ghosh very well to manufacture a bit of width and bludgeons Kapp over the fence for six!

50 for Deepti Sharma! A really composed, mature knock from Deepti Sharma. It comes at just under a run a ball.

Drop! Richa goes bit towards cow corner but doesn’t get enough of it. It’s dropping fast though and that did for the South African fielder who had made her way in from the fence. It’s in and out of the hands.

We have a review! For a no ball! This is excellent stuff. That previous ball was a full toss but not deemed high enough to be called a no ball. Richa Ghosh disagrees. She sends it upstairs but ball tracking says it was just under waist height.

1h agoSun 2 Nov 2025 at 2:37pm

47th over – Mlaba to bowl out

What a spell it has been from the left arm finger spinner.

She has figures of 1-38 from her first nine overs.

They move to 1-40 two balls into her tenth.

The reverse is out! Wow, that was sweetly timed from Richa Ghosh. That’s the first reverse sweep of the innings, if I’m not mistaken.

Three singles to end a nine run over.

That’s the end of an excellent spell from Mlaba – 1-47 from her 10.

1h agoSun 2 Nov 2025 at 2:35pm

46th over – De Klerk over the wicket

She’s trying to find an angle across the left-handed Deepti Sharma.

And she does well to deprive Deepti of any width.

A single off the second ball.

She fires in two full dots to Ghosh.

Shot! But Richa gets her away this time! It’s a lovely drive over the circle and that’s four more.

Too straight this time from De Klerk but it only costs her a single to deep backward square leg.

1h agoSun 2 Nov 2025 at 2:32pm

45th over – Khaka returns

She was expensive in her first spell but pretty good in her second.

Right arm seamer Ayabonga Khaka is in to bowl her eighth over of the innings.

Richa takes guard and works a single.

Deepti does the same.

Two big hitters in now for India.

The field is spread down the ground, as if South Africa is daring them to take the fielders on.

Will they?

No. Not yet anyway, a couple more singles to the total.

Four! It’s a lovely little clip from Ghosh, well in front of square from. Two fielders converge on the ball but neither of them can stop the ball getting to the fence.

1h agoSun 2 Nov 2025 at 2:25pm

44th over cont. – De Klerk has five to come

Richa Ghosh defends her first ball.

But pummels her second! It’s a lofted cover drive the likes of which dreams are made of. And it’s six. What a way to get off the mark.

The Indian WK then works a single, before Deepti does the same.

Ghosh ends the over with another attractive looking cover drive for no run.

1h agoSun 2 Nov 2025 at 2:23pm

Out! Caught and bowled!

De Klerk re-enters attack and she makes an immediate impact!

Amanjot Kaur chips a full ball back towards De Klerk, who moves slightly to her right, almost takes out Deepti Sharma, but manages to take a pretty simple return catch.

1h agoSun 2 Nov 2025 at 2:22pm

43rd over – Mlaba bowls to Deepti

And unsurprisingly, the left handed batter is down and sweeping hard.

She makes a good connection but it’s only a single to the fielder on the rope.

Really good stuff from Mlaba, who’s bowling stump to stump to Amanjot. Three dots in a row.

The batter eventually works a single to long-on.

Appeal! Move over Alex Ross – there’s a new sweepologist in town! Deepti is down and sweeping again but this time misses the ball completely. The ball cannons into her arm or her leg or a combination or both. It doesn’t look very good, and it’s given not out by the umpire, but South Africa sends it upstairs…

And yep, impact is way outside off.

An excellent over from Mlaba though.

1h agoSun 2 Nov 2025 at 2:15pm

42nd over – Kapp to bowl her second last

Deepti works a single off the first.

Marizanne Kapp bowls two dots to Armanjot Kaur.

Shot! Amanjot waits on a wide one and opens the blade to guide the ball behind point and to the boundary.

She’s been good tonight, Kapp. She’s kept things tight and caused the odd problem with next to no help from the deck of through the air.

A single to end the over. India nearing 250.
