Recap: Andrew suggested Epstein ‘catch-up’ months before New York meeting, emails show

Andrew Mountbatten Windsor told disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein it would be “good to catch up in person” months after the paedophile was released from prison for prostituting minors, court documents show.

In an email on April 15 2010, following a suggestion from Epstein that the then-prince should meet American banker Jes Staley, Andrew said he would try to “drop by” New York later in the year.

The two were later pictured together in Central Park in New York in December 2010 in a meeting Andrew claimed in his 2019 Newsnight interview was to break off their friendship.

Jeremy Vine suggests Andrew could end up in a US jail

The broadcaster told the BBC that the King’s brother – who denies the allegations against him – no longer had anyone protecting him.

He said Andrew had been “buried alive” and he was “amazed” at the plans to take his last military honour away from him.

“But I wonder whether the Americans will think, ‘okay, we can now go for him’. I would reckon in the next five years he’ll be in an American jail.”

He added: “I think they’ll start some extradition proceedings on him. Because now he has no protection… That must be a signal to the FBI and others that they can now look into him properly.”

Andrew Mountbatten Windsor reportedly fixed a visit to Buckingham Palace for businessmen working for a cryptocurrency mining company with £1.4m ties to his ex-wife, it has been reported.

Founders of Pegasus Group Holdings, who employed Sarah Ferguson as a brand ambassador, were given a private tour of the palace while the late Queen was in residence, according to the BBC.

Andrew ‘refused to sign off’ on statements supporting victims, reports say

Andrew Mountbatten Windsor routinely “refused” to give his approval to statements acknowledging the victims of Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes – effectively blocking the Palace from making such a declaration, new reports say.

A source close to the King and Queen told The Times all communication had required Andrew’s sign-off, and that the former duke refused to approve messages until references to victims were removed.

In his latest statement, King Charles took the unprecedented step of recognising the victims of Epstein’s abuse, writing: “Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”

Recap: There are no plans to remove Andrew from line of succession

Andrew Mountbatten Windsor may have lost his royal titles, but there are no plans to remove him from the line of succession.

The government said it “fully supports” the Palace’s decision, but would not move to take Andrew out of his eighth place in line for the throne.

The process would require an act of Parliament to formally remove him which would be complex and would need to be agreed with all the Commonwealth realms, including Australia and Canada.
