Major regeneration plan launched to transform Clydebank

The scheme, titled Revitalising Clydebank – A Community Vision for the Future, is supported by the UK Government’s Pride in Place programme.

With up to £20 million in investment and a four-year delivery plan already underway, the vision is the result of collaboration with residents, businesses, community groups, and anchor institutions such as West College Scotland, NHS Golden Jubilee, and West Dunbartonshire Council.

The plan focuses on rejuvenating the town centre, improving transport links, expanding skills and employment opportunities, supporting local businesses, and celebrating Clydebank’s distinctive culture and heritage.

Liz Connolly, chair of the Clydebank Neighbourhood Board, said: “This plan represents the hopes and ambitions of the people of Clydebank.

“It has been shaped by residents, local businesses, anchor institutions, and community partners who know this town best.

“Together, we are laying the foundations for a future where Clydebank is vibrant, connected, and full of opportunity.

“I am immensely proud of the collective effort that has brought us to this point.”

The regeneration blueprint sets out a vision for a thriving, empowered community with enhanced access to opportunity.

Key priorities include creating a welcoming, accessible town centre for shopping, leisure, housing, and work; improving transport options for residents, workers, and visitors; celebrating Clydebank’s industrial heritage alongside a modern identity; expanding skills training and job opportunities, particularly for young people and the long-term unemployed; supporting sustainable, energy-efficient neighbourhoods; and empowering the community to help shape future developments.

These themes will guide more than a decade of investment and decision-making, with the goal of delivering both physical improvements and lasting social and economic benefits.

Members of the Clydebank Neighbourhood Board will oversee the plan’s implementation, working with local stakeholders to ensure projects reflect community needs.

Initial investment during the first four years will prioritise improvements to public spaces, transport connectivity, safety, and access to skills and employment.

Douglas McAllister, Member of Parliament for West Dunbartonshire and a board member, said: “The UK Government funded Pride in Place programme gives us the means to deliver real, community-driven change—improving our town centre, boosting local employment, and restoring pride in our neighbourhoods.

“Clydebank has a proud history, and this plan helps to ensure we also have a bright future.”

The regeneration plan is funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and forms part of the wider Pride in Place programme, which supports community-led transformation across the UK.

In Clydebank, the vision is to create a thriving, greener, and more inclusive town through targeted investment and long-term planning.

Connolly also said the scheme underlines a commitment to building a stronger, more resilient Clydebank for the next decade and beyond.

Early priorities include upgrading the public realm and transport infrastructure, expanding pathways into employment and training, and creating safer and more attractive spaces for all.

The regeneration programme also aims to foster civic pride by celebrating Clydebank’s industrial heritage, while promoting a modern identity that attracts visitors and investment.

Efforts to support sustainable growth will include energy-efficient infrastructure, active travel options, and greener public spaces.

By focusing on inclusive growth and community empowerment, the plan seeks to ensure that Clydebank’s transformation delivers broad-based benefits that endure for generations to come.

The Clydebank Neighbourhood Board will continue to work closely with residents and stakeholders to turn the shared vision into reality, guided by the values of collaboration, sustainability, and pride in place.
