BIC Nigeria says it is committed to supporting the push for technology-enabled learning environments to enhance inclusive education for differently abled children in Nigeria.

According to the company, this move is in commemoration of Global Education Week (GEW) in partnership with Raising Star Africa Foundation (RSAF).

Speaking at Sari-Iganmu Inclusive School, Lagos, where the company unveiled three renovated solar-powered classrooms, Anthony Amahwe, general manager, BIC Nigeria, said that improving learning conditions for students, especially those in underserved communities, remains central to the company’s purpose.

Amahwe said that by transforming these classrooms into solar-powered, inclusive learning spaces, the company is enabling children to learn comfortably, safely, and creatively, adding that the project contributes to its ambition to improve learning conditions for 250 million students globally by the end of 2025.

The upgraded classrooms feature renewable energy integration, modern learning tools, and essential infrastructure improvements tailored to support inclusive education. The initiative aims to ensure uninterrupted learning, promote self-expression, and create inspiring spaces where children of all abilities can thrive.

Michael Showunmi, founder of Raising Star Africa Foundation, said that the investment by BIC would significantly improve access to quality education for children requiring additional learning support and create a more inclusive school ecosystem

Adding to the renovation, BIC hosted a creative colouring workshop with students, encouraging self-expression. Writing tools and learning materials were also donated to equip classrooms with the resources needed to support students’ daily academic activities and to encourage confidence-building through writing and self-expression. Guests were taken on a guided tour of the facility before the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which marked the formal handover of the upgraded classrooms to the school community.

To further reaffirm BIC’s commitment to celebrating and empowering educators who inspire learning and creativity every day, BIC rewarded two of the longest-serving teachers at Sari-Iganmu Inclusive School with ₦1 million each in recognition of their years of dedication and service.

Oladeji Aishat, Head Teacher of Sari-Iganmu Inclusive School, expressed immense gratitude for the thoughtful and transformative renovations and donations at the school, noting that an improved, modernised environment enhances learning for every child and that these renovations will greatly motivate and inspire our differently abled learners.

“Inclusive education is a shared responsibility, and we deeply appreciate BIC and the Raising Star Africa Foundation for bringing this vision to life,” she said.

This year’s project reinforces BIC’s long-term commitment to improving learning conditions for all students across Nigeria. Over the past three years, through partnerships with organisations such as Let It Shine Academy (LISA), Morit International School, and the Igando Inclusive Unit, BIC has renovated classrooms, equipped schools with thousands of writing materials, and trained hundreds of teachers through its educator development program, Canvas of Change.

BIC’s education initiatives form a key pillar of its global sustainable development program, Writing the Future Together, with a focus on education as a key pillar. Global Education Week is celebrated annually across BIC markets, bringing together team members, partners, and community stakeholders to implement projects that help improve learning environments, unleash creativity, and inspire students.

Through sustained partnerships, investment in school infrastructure, and targeted support for both students and educators, BIC continues to contribute towards shaping inclusive, resilient, and future-ready education in Nigeria.
