Thousands flee Thailand-Cambodia border after deadly clashes and air strikes | BBC News

Thousands of civilians along the Thailand-Cambodia border are fleeing after an escalation of violence between the two countries.

A Thai military spokesperson said air force jets bombed Cambodian military positions after a Thai soldier was killed in an exchange of fire along the disputed border.

Cambodia has said that four civilians were killed in Thai Army gunfire in its northern border provinces of Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey.

Both sides have accused each other of starting the violence, which is the most serious confrontation since their agreed ceasefire in July.

Clashes have also been reported in Thailand’s north-eastern Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani provinces.
