Myer to stock UK label from February

Department store Myer is set to bring UK clothing brand Topshop back to Australian shoppers in the new year, almost six years after the last standalone Australian Topshop store closed its doors.

The relaunch will see Topshop’s jeans and apparel stocked exclusively across all of Myer’s 56 stores and its online store, from February 2026.

The move forms part of Myer’s strategy to feature brands that appeal to younger consumers, according to the retailer’s chief merchandise officer Belinda Slifkas.

“We are thrilled to welcome one of the most iconic and globally celebrated brands to Myer and we know the London look is popular right across Australia from Perth to Bondi,” Slifkas said in a statement provided to SmartCompany.

“As we continue to refresh and elevate our womenswear offering with globally relevant, fashion-forward labels, Topshop is the perfect addition to the Myer family.”

Topshop is the latest addition to Myer’s range for women, with JAG, Sportscraft and Lioness all joining the department store’s lineup in the past 12 months.

In recent years, Myer has also welcomed the clothing brands previously owned by Premier Investments into its stable, including Just Jeans, Jay Jays, Portmans, Dotti and Jacqui E, and overhauled its Myer One loyalty program.

Topshop’s global return

For Topshop, the Myer deal follows similar relaunches of the brand in the UK, France, Ireland and Denmark.

Topshop brand director Henrik Matthiesen said returning to Australia is an “important milestone as we reintroduce Topshop to the world”.

“Working with Myer allows us to bring our renewed vision to the Australian market with energy, relevance and a strong connection to how people want to dress today, all while building on Topshop’s iconic British heritage,” he said in the same statement.

“We highly appreciate our cooperation with Myer — to us, they are the perfect partner to launch Topshop with in Australia, and we are sure that their strong presence will benefit us as we re-enter the Australian market.”

The reemergence of Topshop comes almost five years after its former parent company, Arcadia Group, collapsed at the end of 2020.

The brand was acquired in 2021 by online retailer ASOS, which then went on to sell a majority stake in the business in late 2024. It is currently owned by a joint venture between ASOS, which holds 25%, and Danish fashion company Bestseller A/S, which holds 75%.

Both Topshop and its sister brand Topman are set to return to British retail stores in 2026 through a partnership with John Lewis.

Arcadia previously operated a number of Topshop stores in Australia, after it took control of the brand’s Australian franchise following its collapse in 2017.

Retailer Hilton Seskin brought the brand to Australia in 2011 and quickly grew the local franchise to nine stores and 17 concessions in Myer stores.

However, administrators were appointed to the chain six years later, with one analyst suggesting at the time that the fast-fashion retailer arrived on Australian stores too late, and struggled with differentiating itself from competitors from the very start.

The last Australian Topshop store closed in Sydney in March 2020.
