Christmas frequently witnesses our beloved retailers adjusting their operating hours and schedules. The majority of workers will have activated their out-of-office messages, with employment matters banished from their thoughts until 2026 arrives.
Those who received money and vouchers on Christmas Day might be keen to make purchases whilst enjoying time away from work and education. However, certain retailers won’t be rushing to reopen their doors to customers just yet.
Rather, several major brands will be allowing their workforce to enjoy a deserved rest after the December Christmas period, when individuals make preparations for the celebrations. We’ve gathered details about some of the most beloved shops that Britons frequently visit.
Every Home Bargains outlet across the UK will remain shut on Boxing Day. The budget retailer revealed earlier this year that it would close for three days during the holiday period, encompassing Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, reports the Mirror.
The chain adopted identical measures last Christmas (2024), so regular customers shouldn’t find this development unexpected. Management decided to close branches nationwide “so that employees can spend the festive season with their loved ones.”
A Home Bargains representative commented: “Our colleagues work incredibly hard throughout the year, and we want to recognise that commitment. As a family-run business, we understand the importance of spending time with family and friends, particularly over the holidays.”
All Home Bargains outlets across the UK will shut their doors at 5pm on Christmas Eve. Customers can resume their shopping during the Christmas week period, from December 27 through to 31, with regular hours in operation.
The stores will close again on New Year’s Day (January 1), before returning to standard trading hours on January 2.
B&M
Based on information from its website, BandM outlets will trade on Boxing Day as well as New Year’s Day. Christmas Day remains the sole day when shopping won’t be possible, with closing times brought forward from 11pm to 10pm starting December 27.
Verifying details with your local branch online would provide the most accurate opening times, though most locations appear to operate from 8am to 6pm on Boxing Day. These hours also apply to both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Fashion and homeware retailer Primark will welcome customers on Boxing Day – albeit with shortened trading hours. A Primark representative stated: “The opening hours of our UK stores will vary by store over the festive period, so shoppers should check their local store times on our website to plan their visits.”
Complete details for individual Primark store opening times can be found here.
The Range
The Range has confirmed it will shut all locations on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The company has stated that customers will need to wait until December 27 to visit their stores, as they’ll remain closed on Boxing Day to allow their workforce a well-deserved rest.
In a recent Instagram post, The Range announced: “Quick heads up! Our stores will be closed on Boxing Day because even we need a little break from all the festive fun.”
The retailer reassured customers that they could still snag Boxing Day deals online if they fancied a bit of retail therapy on 26 December.
