As Britons brace themselves against the biting cold, the UK Health Security Agency has rolled out a series of cold health alerts effective until January 9.

In response to this, over 670,000 households spanning England, Wales, and Northern Ireland have now become eligible for a £25 support payment from the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ). These Cold Weather Payments are activated when temperatures in a specific region plunge to 0C or lower for seven consecutive days.

A vast number of benefit recipients qualify for this aid, including those on Pension Credit. Those receiving Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Universal Credit, or Support for Mortgage Interest might also be eligible, although further conditions may apply.

For those not on Pension Credit, eligibility typically comes with additional stipulations, such as having a health condition or disability, caring responsibilities, or children under five years old or with a disability.
