Five luxury cars have allegedly been stolen from a home in Queensland after a pair of young intruders armed with knives reportedly broke into a couple’s home while the family, including their newborn, slept inside. The pair of alleged thieves broke into the property in Helensvale, on the Gold Coast, just after 10pm on Saturday, November 22, bypassing CCTV, an alarm, and a guard dog before making off with two cars, homeowner Sourabh told A Current Affair.
The duo allegedly returned hours later with a third accomplice before fleeing with three more high-end vehicles.
A 2024 Mercedes-Benz E300, a 2024 Mercedes-Benz GL300, a 2023 Mercedes-Benz G63, a 2019 Mercedes-Benz E220 and a 2017 Porsche Cayenne were taken from the property, police allege.
Sourabh runs a consultancy firm and said he uses the cars as part of his business.
CCTV footage, published by A Current Affair, shows two male offenders, both dressed in T-shirts and wearing caps on their heads, walking up the driveway of the property before making their way through the laundry door, somehow bypassing the alarm.
One male, who was also wearing a black face covering and gloves, appeared to be carrying multiple knives in his hands, CCTV footage shows.
“They were carrying knives and walking freely as if they have nothing to be fear of (sic),” Sourabh’s, partner, Pragya, told the program.
“I’ve got a newborn at home, so you can imagine that emotional trauma.”
Pragya alleged the young intruders used a knife to make a tear in the screen door before they “pushed the knife in … and jacked (the lock) it open”.
“They can see the (security) camera is right in front of them, they don’t care.”
After returning outside, the pair can be seen sifting through multiple keys.
“They got all our keys, and one by one, I can see that they were trying one key after another, trying to … match (them to the vehicles),” said Pragya.
The pair allegedly stole two cars while the family dog watched on from behind a gate.
Hours later, around 2am on Sunday, they returned with a third accomplice to allegedly steal three more cars parked on the street.
The couple said they thought they had done “everything” to protect their home.
“We have done the secure gate, we have closed the garage, we did the alarm system, we’ve got our security surveillance camera in place, what else can you think of?” said Pragya, who also noted the family’s pet dog.
They said the incident has left an emotional “scar”, with Pragya unable to sleep and Sourabh waking up every 30 minutes to make sure his home is safe.
“The scar that was left behind is very deep … We never expected this, living in such a beautiful community where everyone feels so safe, and suddenly this happened overnight. It has changed everything for us,” said Sourabh.
“My five-year-old comes and asks, ‘Mum, am I safe enough to play here?’, ‘Am I safe enough to go downstairs?’ What would I say? How do you convince a five-year-old that you are safe in your own home? There is no words for it,” said Pragya.
The couple are now planning to move.
Police said all five vehicles, which Sourabh said are insured, have since been located in Logan, about 50km away from the family’s home.
Two people, including a 17-year-old, have been arrested and charged.
“Around 9am on 27 November officers were conducting a wanding exercise at a shopping centre in Booval in Ipswich when it is alleged a teenage boy ran from officers when they tried to intercept him,” police said in a statement on Friday.
“He was located by police a short time later on South Station Road at Booval and taken into custody.”
When officers searched the 17-year-old, they allegedly found drugs and car keys linked to the alleged theft of the five luxury vehicles.
The boy, from Mutdapilly, has been charged with five counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of enter dwelling and commit, and one count each of enter and commit indictable offence, attempted enter dwelling with intent at night whilst armed in company, face marking with intent to commit indictable offence, possess dangerous drugs and obstruct police.
Police also arrested a 22-year-old man from Forrest Hill at an address in North Ipswich that same day. He has been charged with four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three counts of enter dwelling and commit indictable offence and one count each of receiving tainted goods, stealing, trespass and possession of dangerous drugs.
The 22-year-old is due to reappear in Richmond Magistrates Court on January 23, while the 17-year-old will reappear in the Ipswich Children’s Court on January 12.
It comes after Queensland Premier David Crisafulli announced in October that almost 3,000 youth offenders have been charged under landmark Adult Crime, Adult Time laws and victim numbers are down 10.8 per cent per capita in the state this year.
Citing Queensland Police data, Mr Crisafulli said the number of victims of stolen cars dropped 15.6 per cent, break-ins 21.2 per cent and robberies 12.6 per cent over the first nine months of 2025, compared with the same period last year and based on population.
“Queenslanders demanded a fresh start and safer communities, and that’s exactly what we are delivering,” the Premier said in a statement.
“Adult Crime, Adult Time is making Queensland safer by holding serious repeat offenders accountable, which means fewer people are having their homes broken into, their livelihoods stolen, and their families harmed.
“These are promising early signs, but we are not taking our foot off the pedal. While we are seeing crime down and victim numbers down, there is much more to be done to make Queensland safer, and we remain committed to delivering the fresh start we promised.”
