A large, strong high pressure system is sitting over the Great Australian Bight, which is set to bring “cool, at times windy and showery weather to the south-east of the country, with some showers for the east coast as well”, according to Miriam Bradbury from the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM).

It’ll be generally drier and sunnier weather for South Australia, while the west coast is forecast to experience very hot conditions.
The BoM says an active monsoon trough lying across northern parts of the country, coupled with some low pressure troughs in the vicinity, will generate significant cloud, showers, thunderstorms and heavy falls through much of northern Australia.
Those systems will pull the wet weather down to even parts of south-east Queensland as well.
And sadly, the Boxing Day forecast so far is for much of the same around the country.
So what does the weather have planned for your neck of the woods? Let’s check out the state-by-state forecasts:

It’ll be mostly sunny and dry in the north but moderate southerly winds, will keep things fresh about the Gippsland coasts.
Melbourne will have a cloudy day with a chance of showers and tops of 17 degrees, dropping down to 12 degrees overnight.
Showers are forecast mainly about the west and south, with a few isolated showers about the east during the day.

It’ll also be a mixed back weather-wise for South Australia, with a cool-to-cold day in the southeast and central parts of the state along with mild-to-warm but windy conditions in the west and north.
Adelaide is heading for a top of 24 degrees, as maximum temperatures across the state sit near to below the December average.
And with cloud clearing across the day in the capital city, it will be a cooler night with the the mercury set to drop down to 13 degrees.
A scorcher is forecast for Perth, with highs forecast to hit 40 degrees.
The sunny morning could give way to an afternoon or early evening thunderstorm with little or no rainfall.
