Swede curlers accuse Canada of cheating
(AP)
Curling’s international governing body says it will have officials monitoring for rule violations during the rest of the competition after Sweden’s men’s team accused Canada of cheating in a tense round-robin game.
Tensions boiled over when Brad Jacobs’s Canada beat Sweden 8-6, with Niklas Edin’s rink alleging their opponents were double touching the stone during the contest.
World Curling has introduced electronic handles on stones at the Games, which flash red if players are still making contact with the stone beyond the hog line — the point where curlers must let go during delivery.
However, the sensor for detecting violations is in the handle, with Sweden claiming Canada’s players were touching the granite, where there are no sensors.
“It is not possible for World Curling to have game umpires positioned to observe all hog lines for every stone delivery,” World Curling said in a statement.
“However, beginning with the Saturday afternoon session, two officials will move between all four sheets and observe deliveries.”
After Sweden and Canada asked officials to keep an eye on their opponents’ deliveries early on, there was a heated exchange between the teams’ thirds Marc Kennedy and Oskar Eriksson towards the end of the game.
Eriksson told Kennedy he would show him a video replay of him touching the stone repeatedly.
The Canadian responded with an expletive.
“World Curling spoke with the Canadian officials to issue a verbal warning regarding the language used by a Canadian men’s player during the game,” World Curling said.
“During that meeting it was made clear to those officials that further inappropriate behaviour … would result in additional sanctions.”
Curling Canada CEO Nolan Thiessen said it was a poor choice of words from Kennedy.
“I think [it was] heat of the moment,” Thiessen told reporters.
“Something was said in his ear which got him going. Head games get played in a lot of sports and things get said in competitive sport and I think this was one of those situations.
“Do I wish Marc didn’t drop an F-bomb? Yeah.”

Anthony ‘baffled’ after winning gold
(AP)
Jakara Anthony has spoken with the Nine Network after winning gold in the women’s dual moguls.
Anthony admitted she was a bit shocked after having to overcome the disappointment of not winning gold in the singles moguls as defending champion earlier this week.
That’s crazy. I’m even just more baffled to be here after the other day.
It’s been such an emotional roller coaster the last few days.
(AP)
Anthony says she knew she needed to re-group after finishing eighth in the singles final.
There’s been a lot of tears shed over the last few days and a lot of excitement.
We’ve (Australia) had a couple more gold medals, but it was just hanging in the back of my mind like, ‘Well, we’ve got one more crack at this and then it’s another four-year wait’.
The way we were able to go about today was just phenomenal and to build throughout the day, It was tricky [out] there.
I’m just so proud of what we were able to achieve.
(AP)
Anthony feels it may take some time to sink in that she’s a two-time Olympic gold medallist.
It’s really crazy when you look at it like that.
I’m just riding the high of this one right now. I can’t even think about the fact that I have two. This is really special.

Dual moguls scoring
How do they do the scoring of dual moguls?
– Bec
Athletes are judged on three criteria: turns, air and speed.
There are seven judges, with each having five possible votes to compare the athletes on the red and blue courses.
According to the official Winter Olympics website, the judges use voting combinations of 5-0, 4-1, 3-2, 2-3, 1-4, or 0-5.
Getting across the line first doesn’t guarantee victory, as speed only accounts for a portion of the total score.
