Christmas may be over for another year, but there’s no need to put away the festive films just yet. Fans of the iconic 2003 film Love Actually might be astonished to discover that one of its youngest stars is now fully grown – and has married the former partner of a controversial public figure.
Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who captured hearts as the adorably lovestruck Sam in Richard Curtis’s cherished romantic comedy, is now wed to Talulah Riley, the actress and writer who was previously married to Elon Musk – on two separate occasions. Following his breakthrough as a child actor, Brodie-Sangster, now 35, has forged an remarkable career showcasing his considerable talent.
His impressive résumé includes a string of enormously successful productions, from the Maze Runner film franchise to acclaimed television series such as Game of Thrones and The Queen’s Gambit, among many others.
Most recently, the Love Actually star delighted viewers in a festive advertisement for Google Pixel, playing a self-absorbed version of himself revisiting the memorable locations from the 2003 romantic classic.
In the commercial, he hilariously misinterprets the enthusiasm of Google Pixel users, believing they’re enthralled by his fame and appearance in the film, rather than their new device’s features, reports The Mirror.
Following its release on social media, fans rushed to share their delight. One viewer remarked: “I can’t count how many times I have watched this lol.”
Another viewer gushed: “What a cute commercial! Good one!” while another praised it as “very clever” and yet another declared: “Brilliant!”.
During the 2022 production of the miniseries Pistol, which chronicles the story of the Sex Pistols, Thomas Brodie-Sangster crossed paths with English actress and author Talulah Riley, now 40. It’s rumoured that sparks flew between the pair on set.
Talulah kick-started her career on television with roles in Agatha Christie’s Poirot and Marple, before securing a lead role in E4’s short-lived 2007 series, Nearly Famous. Her filmography boasts titles like Pride and Prejudice, St Trinian’s, The Boat That Rocked, among others.
In 2008, she made headlines as Elon Musk’s mistress. After the billionaire Tesla Motors CEO parted ways with his then-wife Justine Musk, he and Talulah embarked on a rollercoaster romance, marrying in 2010, divorcing in 2012, remarrying in 2013, and finally parting ways for good in 2016.
On 27 July 2023, Brodie-Sangster took to his official Instagram to announce his engagement to Talulah. He shared a snapshot of the couple in a gondola, captioning it: “Happy to announce that Talulah and I are engaged. Love is all around X.”
The caption, a nod to the iconic 1967 track ‘Love is All Around’ by the Troggs, famously reimagined as a Christmas song by Bill Nighy’s character Billy Mack in Love Actually, sparked a flurry of reactions from fans in the comments section.
One fan exclaimed: “How did I not know that the kid from Love Actually was married to Elon Musk’s ex? ? ? ? Am I the only one shocked by this? CUTE COUPLE THOUGH. Wishing you love and happiness! !”.
Another gushed: “Fan of their relationship,” whilst someone else, just catching wind of their romance, remarked: “Lmao I just saw this now, love it.”
After the pair tied the knot in summer 2024, admirers took to TikTok in their droves to share tribute clips honouring the newlyweds. Under another TikTok celebrating their marriage, a supporter swooned: “They look so cute together, I wish them the best,” with the video’s creator replying: “[I know right]! ! They look so perfect together!”
Someone else chimed in: “I’m so happy for them omg I love seeing him happy.”
Over on Reddit, one person marvelled: “It is WILD to me that Mary Bennet and Sam from Love Actually are betrothed.”
