UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said the country’s relationship with China is in a “good, strong place” after “productive” talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing.

Starmer added that progress has been made on issues including whisky tariffs and visa-free travel to China, with No 10 saying the two countries will “maintain frank and open dialogue on areas of disagreement”.

Xi said there have been “twists and turns” in China-UK ties, but engagement is “unavoidable”, while pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca, headquartered in the UK, has announced a $15bn investment in China.
