Scotty James wins silver

Australia’s Scotty James has won silver at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

James was skating for gold, but fell on his fifth and final trick.

That must be devastating for James. Everyone wants to win an Olympic medal, but the one he needed was gold.

Japan’s Yuto Totsuka wins gold with a phenomenal 95, while Japan’s Ryusei Yamada takes home the bronze.

Overhead camera snaps during James’ final run

While Scotty was in the pipe, a cable from the overhead camera snapped and fell on top of the mixed zone and cameras in front.

It’s hard to know whether that entered his line of sight and distracted. Maybe it did, maybe it didn’t.

More to come.

James left shattered after silver medal finish

You have to feel for Scotty James.

He looks shattered while he waits for the podium to be set up here in Livigno.

He hd the ability to win gold, but he couldn’t get the job done tonight.

The silver lining is that this isn’t the end of Scotty James. At his pre-Olympic press conference, he more than said he’ll be back at the Olympics for another crack in 2030.

But for now, this is devastating.

Australia’s most successful day at Winter Olympics

FYI. With Scotty James securing at least the silver medal, this will be Australia’s most successful day in Winter Olympics history after Josie Baff won gold earlier this afternoon.

Jakara Anthony own gold and Tess Coady won bronze on the same day at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.

6.54am

James guaranteed an Olympic medal

Scotty James is guaranteed a medal.

The question is, what colour will it be?

He won a bronze at PyeongChang in 2018. He won a silver in Beijing in 2022. The only thing missing from the trophy cabinet is a gold.

To get it done, he must score higher than 95.

He has the silver for now. Can he snatch the gold from Yuto Totsuka of Japan?

6.48am

Scores tonight put Beijing 2022 to shame

To demonstrate how high the level is here — the current top five (pre-Guseli run three) all scored higher than the number that earned bronze in Beijing four years ago.

And maybe that effort from Val is up there, too.

6.46am

Val scores 88 in final run

Australian Valentino Guseli will not win a medal tonight.

A great effort from him, and a solid score of 88 in his final run to move into fifth place, but he misses the podium tonight.

6.43am

The scores to beat

Here’s a look at our top five before Val and Scotty do their final run.

Yuto Totsuka (95) – JapanScotty James (93.5) – AustraliaRyusei Yamada (92) – Japan Ruka Hirano (90) – Japan Chaeun Lee (87.5) – South Korea

Time for James to push the red button

Scotty’s in the medals. But if he wants a gold one, he has to push the red button.

He has to drop something insane. He has to do what he said he’d probably have to do: produce the best run of his life.

This is insane. Imagine his heart rate right now.

6.28am

Scotty moves into silver medal position

Scotty James rises to the occasion, dropping a switch backside 1440 Japan into a switch backside 1440.

That’s four rotations into four rotations. Phenomenal effort. He scores a 93.5 to move into the silver medal position.

One more run to go.

James has been hinting all week that he’s got something a little extra up his sleeve. Will we see a new trick tonight?
