‘Not a concern’: Pendlebury downplays Achilles issue

Collingwood star Scott Pendlebury doesn’t seem too concerned about the Achilles issue that ended his night early.
Pendlebury says he felt a little bit of tightness and didn’t want to risk anything.
“Not a concern. We just made a smart call,” he tells Fox Footy.
“I hurt my ankle against Adelaide and it sort of got tight again in that area.
It was just after half-time, it just got sore again. It is what it is, and it’s nothing to worry about.”

FT: Collingwood 13.9 (87) defeats GWS 7.12 (54)

Professional stuff from the Magpies tonight as they handle business comfortably in the end against an undermanned GWS side.
The Pies got ahead early and never really looked back, leading wire-to-wire, even if it got tight at points.
It’ll feel like a bit of a missed opportunity for the Giants, who will feel that the result could’ve been different had they kicked straight.
Nick Daicos is a lock to take home the three votes from this one after finishing with 36 disposals, six clearances and two goals.
Lachie Whitfield was GWS’s leading ball-winner with 39 touches and had 435m gained.
Collingwood will also be buoyed by the performance of debutant ruckman Oscar Steene, who finished with 20 hitouts, two clearances and eight disposals to go along with a goal.
The Pies go down in disposals (425-362), inside 50s (58-50) and clearances (33-29) but still pull out the W.

Stringer kicks his 400th career goal
Jake Stringer’s finally done it!
He’s knocked on the door all night tonight and has presented the most out of all the Giants forwards.
After peppering a few shots on goal, he converts this snapped set shot to kick the 400th goal of his career.
Stringer’s kicked 2.2 from 13 disposals and also has seven marks tonight.

Five minutes to go at Docklands
The result is in the books here as the clock ticks down in the final quarter.
Giants youngster Ryan Angwin is in a bit of a strife after a head clash. He’s staying out there, but he keeps touching the left side of his face after copping a hit a few minutes ago.

Membrey kicks his fourth after brilliant set-up
Tim Membrey puts the Pies out to a 40-point lead as he drills a set shot for his fourth goal of the night.
Credit for this one had to go to Dan McStay, who found Membrey on the lead with a terrific kick across Collingwood’s attacking 50.

Houston unloads from long range to seal the deal
That’s what they brought him to the club for!
Dan Houston uncorks a beautiful set shot from outside 50 and sends it through halfway up post height.
It’s another goal that comes off the back of a forward half turnover.
The Pies have laid 43 tackles to GWS’s 33 for the game, including 10 inside their attacking 50.

Stringer misses another one at a crucial moment
Jake Stringer has a running shot on goal after taking a mark 55m out from goal.
We’ve seen him kick ones like this plenty of times from this range, and it’s questionable marking from the Pies, who allow him to get to 45m out, but the ball floats wide.
It’s 11.8 to 6.11 Collingwood’s way, the kicking just continues to let down the Giants.

Thomas keeps the Giants alive… barely
Harvey Thomas nails a crucial set shot to keep the Giants’ pulse going.
Collingwood’s lead down to 28 points with 14:35 left on the countdown clock.

Elliott gets on the board as Magpies kick away
I reckon this might be curtains for the Giants, folks.
The Pies force another turnover courtesy of a great smother and Jamie Elliott gets a chance at a set shot from 25m out on a slight angle.
After not having a kick for three quarters, Elliott makes his first one count with an important goal.
The Pies are out to a game-high 33-point lead now.

Daicos creates another goal as McStay strikes
The Giants are hitting danger zone here.
Nick Daicos sizzles one inside 50 and finds a leading Dan McStay 40m out directly in front.
McStay makes no mistake on his set shot and extends the lead to a game-high 25 points.

3QT: Collingwood 9.5 (59) leads GWS 5.10 (40)

Conversion in front of goal, that’s been the name of this game folks.
The Giants kick 1.4 to Collingwood’s 3.2 for the quarter to fall in a deeper hole heading into the final change.
You can’t question their effort tonight, it’s been pretty good, but they’ve let themselves down in front of goal.
After an extremely quiet night by his standards, Jesse Hogan has begun to find a little more of the football.
Hogan has just three disposals and has kicked 0.1 for the night. Can he turn his game around and deliver GWS a win in the final term?
Collingwood will be one man down in the final term with Scott Pendlebury ruled out with an Achilles issue, not what you want to hear when you’re 38.
Darcy Moore is out there, but he appears extremely limited as well, so there is a chance for GWS to run over the top of the Pies.
Nick Daicos has taken control of this game. He’s got 27 disposals, seven inside 50s, five clearances, four score involvements and two goals.
The Giants will have to shut him down to win this one.

Pendlebury ruled out with ‘Achilles tightness’
Scott Pendelbury has been on the bench for the last 12 minutes of game time.
He spent some time in the changerooms and is back on the bench, but has been ruled out for the remainder of the game with what the Pies are calling “Achilles tightness”.
Meanwhile, Jesse Hogan is the latest to blow a set shot for the Giants, who are now 5.10 for the night.

Daicos kicks his second after a Giants fumble
Nick Daicos is making his move here, and so is Collingwood!
The Giants get a little bit fumbly under pressure and if there is someone you absolutely shouldn’t fumble around, it is the Pies No.35.
Daicos snaps through his second for the quarter and the Pies are now out to a 19-point lead.

The Giants extremely wasteful in front of goal
GWS is now 1.4 on set shots to Collingwood’s 5.1 as Callum Brown misses a left-footed snap.
Brown’s miss comes after misses to Jake Riccardi and Kieran Briggs.
The Giants are hanging around, but they’re making things tough for themselves with their kicking in front of goal.
They still lead the inside 50s 39-29 for the game.

Steene kicks his first ever AFL goal as Pies erupt!
Lachie Schultz has a shot on goal but it falls short and Oscar Steene takes a towering mark in the square!
Steene, who is having a very solid debut, drills the set shot from close range to give the Pies a 15-point lead.
Steene’s got 12 hitouts, six touches and two marks and has looked more than handy out there.

Daicos strikes instantly as Pies respond
Collingwood needed a goal and who else could deliver it but Nick Daicos?
The Pies stream out of the centre bounce, and eventually Daicos gets his shoulders facing the goals, which isn’t ever a good thing for the opposition.
Daicos now up to 21 touches to go along with that goal.

Greene strikes after Houston’s turnover
Toby Greene has the first goal of the second half, and it comes after a nightmare turnover from Dan Houston!
Houston looks like he’s about to break away off halfback, but just looses his grip on the footy.
The ball ends up in Toby’s hands and he doesn’t make great contact on his left-footed snap, but it gets past the lunging Darcy Moore on the goal line.
Moore didn’t exactly look athletic in that spoil attempt. He’s not moving freely at all.

The second half is underway at Docklands
We’re off and running in the third quarter as the siren sounds.
Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell in the crowd watching this one.
Darcy Moore is back out there with all the other players as well.
The commentators on Fox Footy are all perplexed as to what’s going on with his leg, as we are too.

Could Ned Long be banned over this incident?
This might be one the MRO takes a look at in the aftermath of this contest.
Collingwood midfielder Ned Long appears to strike Clayton Oliver in the face.
It must be said that Oliver wasn’t significantly impacted from the clash and was able to continue playing, which will help Long’s bid to avoid a ban.
