Donald Trump has predicted that his meeting with Xi Jinping in Beijing will be “very special” – but is also likely to be fraught.
Both sides are looking to stabilise the volatile China – US relationship. The talks are likely to centre on how to balance competition in trade and technology. Trump may also be seeking President Xi’s help to end the war in Iran. China will feel it has the upper hand as it heads to the negotiating table with a war-weakened Washington.
