President Trump has attacked critics of his potential deal with Iran as ‘losers,’ while Iranian officials have played down the prospect of an imminent agreement. Mr Trump insists any deal will either be ‘great and meaningful’ or it wouldn’t happen. He’s also linked the deal to a wider, regional peace, encompassing Israel.

Oil prices have fallen on hopes of a deal that could bring an end to the US-Israel war with Iran.

And the annual Muslim pilgrimage, the Hajj, has begun in Saudi Arabia, against the background of the Iran war. To reassure pilgrims, the Saudi defence ministry posted a video showing air defence batteries on the outskirts of the holy city of Mecca.
