Penneys urgently recalls popular item bought by 573 people with full refund offered

Penneys customers throughout Ireland are being warned to check recent purchases following an urgent recall of a popular baby product that was sold in shops nationwide this year.

It’s believed hundreds of shoppers bought the affected items, which were stocked from March through to September 2025.

The recall applies to two types of soother clips – the 2pk Baby Bear Soother Clip and the 2pk Balloon Soother Clip. Records show they were purchased by 573 customers – comprising 114 of the Baby Bear clips and 459 of the Balloon clips.

The chain says the Baby Bear clips were stocked between June and August, whilst the Balloon clips were sold from March through to September.

Penneys has revealed that the soother clips fail to meet required safety standards and pose a potential choking hazard, reports the Irish Mirror.

A spokesperson said: “We are recalling our products pictured above due to a safety issue. We’ve learned the products do not meet our usual high safety standards. The products are not fully compliant to the relevant safety standards specific to soother clips.”

Parents who bought either of the clips are being urged to stop using them straight away and keep them away from children. Penneys has confirmed that shoppers can bring the product back to any branch for a full refund and proof of purchase isn’t needed.

The spokesperson added: “Please stop using the product immediately. Please return the product to any of our Penneys stores. It is not necessary to show proof of purchase. The returned product will be fully refunded. We apologise for any inconvenience and concerns this may cause.”

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has also confirmed the recall. In a safety alert issued yesterday, it stated: “Primark (t/a Penneys) is carrying out a recall of a 2pk Baby Bear Soother Clip and a 2pk Balloon Soother Clip. The products present a choking risk. The products are not fully compliant with the relevant safety standards specific to soother clips.

“There are approximately 114 affected products of the 2pk Baby Bear Soother Clip and approximately 459 affected products of the 2pk Balloon Soother Clip. The products were sold in Penneys/Primark stores in Ireland between June 2025 and August 2025 (Baby Bear) and between March 2025 and September 2025 (Balloon).

“If you purchased one of these products, please discontinue use immediately and keep it out of the reach of children. The product can be returned to any Penneys/Primark store for a full refund. For further information on this recall, please contact Primark by email at help.ie@help.primark.com.”
