Ireland is in for very wintry weather over the coming days

Munster, along with the rest of Ireland, is bracing for some rather wintry weather conditions, including frost, ice and heavy rain, as we welcome December.
Temperatures are expected to drop to -2C in certain parts of the west of Ireland tonight, with widespread frost and ice, particularly in more exposed areas. We’re entering a period of highly unsettled weather, with potential wintry showers of sleet and even snow over high ground in the days ahead.
However, before all this, we should enjoy some bright spells across the west today, as early rain clears away southwards, giving us a few fine, dry and sunny hours before temperatures plummet tonight.

TODAY – Saturday 29th November
This morning will see some rain and drizzle, clearing southwards by midday to leave a largely dry day with plenty of sunshine and just the odd shower. Expect highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in moderate north to northwest winds.
TONIGHT
Tonight will be cold and mostly clear with just a few showers. Frost and possibly some ice will form in places with lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees.
Light westerly or variable breezes will allow mist and fog patches to develop.
TOMORROW – Sunday 30th November
Tomorrow morning will start off predominantly dry and bright with just isolated showers. However, cloud will build from the west with rain following through the afternoon as southerly winds increase fresh to strong.
Highest afternoon temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees.

Overview: The weather will be changeable. Initially, there will be rain, followed by a largely dry spell away from Atlantic coastal counties, before more rain and showers arrive later in the week.
Sunday night: There will be widespread rain initially, which will clear eastwards as fresh to strong southerly winds ease. Some clear spells and showers will follow into the north and west.
After a brief respite in Munster and south Leinster, another spell of rain will push up from the south. The lowest temperatures will range from 5 to 9 degrees generally, with Ulster being a little cooler early in the night.

Monday: There is some uncertainty in the details, but indications suggest that the rain will extend northwards through the morning, becoming heavy at times and accompanied by strengthening southwesterly winds, possibly turning windy in parts. Sunshine will extend from the southwest through the afternoon as winds gradually moderate and showers follow, mainly affecting the western half of the country.
Early afternoon temperatures will range from 7 to 11 degrees.
Monday night: It will be dry and clear for most, though scattered showers will continue for Atlantic coastal counties. The lowest temperatures will range from 1 to 5 degrees in mostly moderate southwest winds.
Tuesday: Scattered showers will continue for Atlantic coastal counties. Elsewhere, it will be largely dry with good spells of sunshine.
The highest temperatures will range from 7 to 10 or 11 degrees in light to moderate south or southwest winds.
Wednesday: Expect sunny intervals and sporadic showers in the morning. Cloud cover will increase from the southwest during the afternoon, with rain expected in Munster by evening.
Maximum temperatures will range between 8 to 11 degrees, with light to moderate southwesterly winds.
Further Outlook: The weather will continue to be generally unsettled due to dominant low pressure.
