A woman has issued a stark warning to others after recounting her chilling ordeal of discovering an unidentified tracker fixed to her vehicle.
Compact and easy-to-carry trackers can be a brilliant tool for monitoring your possessions, whether that’s keys, mobile phones, or suitcases. Some mums and dads even opt to clip them onto their little ones when venturing into unfamiliar or busy locations.
Yet, they can equally be exploited for more disturbing motives. Since Apple unveiled the AirTags in 2021, growing numbers of individuals, especially women, have come forward with disturbing accounts where AirTags and other tiny trackers have been weaponised as stalking tools that could be tucked into a bag or fastened to a car.
Thankfully, if you’re an iPhone user, your handset will notify you if there’s a tracker in close proximity that’s monitoring your whereabouts. That said, when this happens, they can still be remarkably difficult to find, especially if you’re not sure where to begin searching.
This is exactly what befell Dina Jalaf, 27, from London. In a TikTok post, she disclosed she’d been driving to pick up some dinner at McDonald’s when her phone abruptly flashed up an alert saying it had picked up a Loshall tag moving with her, reports the Mirror.
“What do I do? Like, how on earth do I search my car?” she questioned before the footage cut out, leaving followers deeply worried about her safety. In a subsequent video, Dina revealed that the alert had led her to immediately drive to her local police station instead of going home.
She recalled speaking with the receptionist and explaining that she was being tracked but couldn’t find the tracking device in her car.
After sharing her details, Dina was advised to visit the car dealership where they could remove and dispose of the tracker.
She went on to tell her followers that only her mum and dad had access to her car, leaving her puzzled as to who could have installed the tracker… or so she thought.
In another video, she shared that she’d figured out who was behind the tracker in her car, revealing: “It was my parents. My parents put the tracker in my car. It wasn’t a stranger, I don’t have a stalker, unless you count my parents as the stalkers.”
Dina explained that her parents had called her to confess, although she was still perplexed as to why they’d put the tracking device in her car in the first place.
“Am I done with them? Yes,” she told viewers at the end of the clip.
Many people flocked to the comments section to express their views, with a majority agreeing with Dina that her parents had crossed a line.
“As a parent, It would never occur to me to track my adult children. That’s insane,” one person commented.
Another viewer remarked: “Did they not have anything to say for themselves? It put you in fear for your life. Interesting they only confessed after you mentioned going to the police. I’m so sorry this happened.”
Responding to this, Dina replied: “They offered to explain. I told them I’m not interested in hearing whatever justification they have.”
Meanwhile, another person proposed an alternative explanation: “Maybe incase the car got stolen or you went missing?”.
