House hunting can occasionally throw up a surprise or two. A property that looks completely ordinary from the outside can sometimes conceal an unexpected feature.
And one property owner has been branded “the slip mat final boss” for what lies behind the front door of their home. At first glance, the four-bedroom semi-detached property in Cardiff, on the market with estate agents Darlows for £770,000, doesn’t appear unusual at all. It’s situated in one of the city’s most sought-after locations, has the stunning Roath Park literally on its doorstep, and from the exterior appears to be in superb condition. However, a peek inside uncovers something entirely unanticipated.
TikTok account housinghorrors2.0 shared a video showcasing the Rightmove listing for the property, in which the channel’s presenter, musician Jack Bushrod, called it “the most Cardiff house I’ve ever seen”. “People are calling the owner of this house ‘the slip mat final boss’,” he said.
“In the kitchen they’ve got loads of bloody floor mats,” he said. “Now, I tell you what, I’ve never seen so many. What on Earth and why on Earth would you need that many?”
The video displayed photographs of the kitchen and hallway showing slip mats covering much of the flooring, which appears to be wood or wood-effect material, reports Wales Online. “Now, I am trying to understand for the absolute life of me why on Earth you would need that many, and the only reason I can think of is maybe they’ve got a dog and it slips everywhere,” Jack continued.
“Now, if that is the case, just get new bloody flooring, or put some like, you know, shoes on the dog or something.” This theory was supported by an image of a utility area with a dog bed and toys sectioned off by a baby gate.
Jack continued: “I’ll tell you what, I’ve never seen anything quite like it. It is bloody bonkers, even in the bathroom there’s a slip mat.”
He added: “The only other thing I can think of is maybe there’s someone with a disability where they’re you know, prone to slipping, and if that is the case, that is totally fair enough.” He concluded by suggesting: “I actually think they’re better off getting custom new flooring but I understand it is expensive.”
Viewers chimed in with their own theories in the comments. One agreed with the dog theory, sharing: “They had an anxious dog. My dog is very anxious and scared of slipping. Won’t walk on any hard floors. So we also have mats everywhere.”
Another suggested the mats were for potential buyers to avoid dirtying the floor, while another speculated: “Maybe they can’t be bothered to clean their floors so cover it up.”

“Beyond the interiors, you’ll be delighted by the lovely gardens at both the front and rear of the property. Additionally, secure parking is available at the rear, ensuring peace of mind for you and your family.
“Not only does this home offer unparalleled comfort and convenience, but it is also located within the sought-after Cardiff High School catchment area. Furthermore, the proximity to Heath Hospital adds another layer of convenience to your daily life.
