The new Rudy’s restaurant is now just days away from its grand opening and set to bring a former gym site to life as a pizzeria

Rudy’s pizzeria is getting closer to its opening date with work taking place behind the hoadings transforming the former Built Unique Co gym premises

The opening date for a much-anticipated Sutton Coldfield restaurant has been confirmed.

Rudy’s pizzeria eatery in Birmingham Road, which is based in the former Built Unique Co gym premises at the corner of Manhor Hill. Will welcome customers for the first time on Saturday, March 21 for a special charity night, which can be booked by the public.

The new 3,360-square-foot restaurant is split across two floors, including a mezzanine, and will have space for 100 diners indoors and a further 32 outside.

The venue will ‘showcase Rudy’s signature minimalist charm and laid-back vibe for pizza lovers to relax and unwind, seven days a week,’ the firm said.

It will serve Neapolitan pizzas, accredited by Association of True Neapolitan Pizza (AVPN), with fresh daily dough, double fermented for 24 hours, ‘authentic ingredients’ known as the Holy Trinity – 00 Caputo flour, Fior di Latte – the ‘world’s creamiest’ mozzarella cheese, San Marzano tomatoes and traditional ovens which sees pizzas cooked in just 60 seconds.

And it is offering thousands of free pizzas for the first customers to sign up.

On its opening day, friends and supporters of Erdington Foodbank and Rudy’s are invited to attend a charity night, while the team puts its training into practice between 5pm and 8pm. Bookings for the night can be made here.

All proceeds from the evening, including funds raised through a raffle, will be donated to the charity.

The restaurant will then open fully to the public from 12pm on Sunday, March 22 amd can be booked here.

As well as pizzas, Rudy’s said it would not be a traditional Naples experience without a ‘well-stocked bar’.

Serving ‘iconic Italian spritzes, crisp Italian and local lagers, and classic stirred cocktails, alongside cocktail specials perfect for warmer weather, such as the mango margarita or limoncello spritz’.

Since launching in 2015, Rudy’s has grown from one restaurant in Manchester to more than 37 pizzerias nationwide.

It will be Birmingham’s fourth Rudy’s, following on from outlets in Bennetts Hill, Brindleyplace and Harborne and the fifth in the West Midlands, with one more in Leamington Spa.

The Sutton opening has created 20 jobs from roles in the kitchen, to front of house, and management.

As well as receiving AVPN accreditation for the Neapolitan pizzas, Rudy’s is also recognised among the World’s 50 Best Pizzerias, ranking 23rd globally.

Bookings are live on Tuesday (March 10), and the restaurant will be open from 11.45am (tables from 12noon) seven days a week and will be open until 10pm Sunday to Thursday and until 10.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Rudy’s will take on established Sutton pizzerias – Pizza by Goli and Pizza Express, as well as takeaway newcomer, Caspian, that opened in the former Pizza Hut takeaway premises, all nearby in Birmingham Road.
