Location: La Moneda, Santiago, Chile
Event: The U.S. Embassy is aware of violent demonstrations occurring in the La Moneda area of Santiago. U.S. citizens are strongly advised to avoid the area between Los Héroes Metro and Plaza Italia. Carabineros have deployed riot control measures. Protests are expected to last until at least 1830 hours.
Actions to Take:
Avoid demonstrations and crowds. Check local media for breaking news. Remain alert to your surroundings and possible threats. Keep a low profile. Notify friends and family of your safety. Review your personal security plans. Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible. Have a plan to leave in an emergency that does not depend on U.S. government help.
