Businessman Marcio José de Freitas Nascimento, known as “Marcio da União,” announced his pre-candidacy for federal deputy for the Liberal Party (PL). He visited the headquarters of Folha do Litoral News on the afternoon of Friday, the 27th, where he highlighted the reasons that led him to run for a seat in the Federal Chamber, his connection to Paranaguá and the coast, as well as his affiliation with the PL. Marcio reinforced the need for the region to have a representative in Brasília who can bring the demands of the population of the seven municipalities in the region, emphasizing his 25-year residence in the mother city of Paraná, his family roots in the municipality, and his knowledge of the reality of the Paraná coast.

Last Tuesday, the 24th, Marcio da União signed his affiliation with the PL in Brasília – DF in a ceremony that was attended by the pre-candidate for president, Flávio Bolsonaro, as well as the pre-candidate for governor of Paraná, Sérgio Moro, among other federal and national leaders of the party, demonstrating the presence of a political representative from Paranaguá and the coast in one of the biggest party events in Brazil in 2026.

At the time, the pre-candidate highlighted the support he received from members within the party during his affiliation. “I was invited by federal deputy Felipe Barros, a pre-candidate for the Senate, to be in Brasília to formalize my affiliation on the same day that Senator Sérgio Moro also joined the PL. My membership was endorsed by the national president of the PL, Valdemar da Costa Neto, and by our future pre-candidate for president of the Republic, Flávio Bolsonaro, who is also a senator. Thank God, we are being very well received by the PL,” he explained.

Connection with Paranaguá and lack of political representation in the coastal region

When outlining the reasons that led him to run for a seat in the Federal Chamber, the pre-candidate highlighted his connection to Paranaguá and the lack of federal representation on the coast. “I have been a resident and businessman in Paranaguá for 25 years. My company and family are here, and it’s where politics began to be a part of my life. And today I see the coast of Paraná as somewhat abandoned, forgotten. We haven’t had a federal deputy here in Paranaguá for approximately 50 years. This is bad for the city, because a municipality that has a federal deputy can evolve much more, have more resources, and receive greater attention from the state and federal governments. Electing a federal deputy from here means that our coast will only reap good results in the coming years,” he emphasized.

“The fact that the coast of Paraná has never had anyone to represent it in the Federal Chamber motivated me. Many say: ‘It’s impossible.’ I don’t subscribe to that word. Everything is possible. I am very motivated; the time has come for the coast of Paraná to make history. And the first step is to be present, listening to the demands of our population. It’s important to say that I don’t like political promises; I believe in a politics of real knowledge of the city where one lives. Paranaguá can evolve in many aspects, and I want to contribute to that,” he emphasizes.

Tourism potential of the coast

According to Marcio, the coastline has great tourism potential, but still needs investment outside the summer season. “We have enormous potential in tourism. Today, the Paraná coast has 30 kilometers of beaches rich in natural and cultural attractions, with a thriving economy and hardworking people. Unfortunately, we are only remembered during the summer season, when there is investment in security and infrastructure, but these investments do not continue throughout the rest of the year, outside the season. It is also important to mention the attractions of the bays of Paranaguá and Guaratuba, as well as our islands, with diverse tourist and cultural potential, which attract thousands of tourists, something that could be much better exploited,” he pointed out.

“Tourism can generate many resources for the coast of Paraná, revenue for our municipalities, and also brings development to various sectors of coastal cities, including public health, the economy, industry, education, security, and other areas. There is a clamor for evolution, for modernization, and our intention is to contribute in this regard,” says Marcio da União.

Commitment to Paranaguá and the coast of Paraná

Marcio da União also highlighted his commitment to Paranaguá and his knowledge of the needs of coastal cities. “Paranaguá, being the mother city of Paraná, is still about 20 to 30 years behind. I know every neighborhood, and my main role is to bring the economic and social development that our population deserves. It’s important to say that I know all our municipalities, I know our problems; I’m not a stranger to our seven cities: Guaraqueçaba, Antonina, Pontal do Paraná, Matinhos, Guaratuba, Morretes, and Paranaguá,” he emphasized.

“It’s the first time in history that I’ve seen Paranaguá, on the coast, have the opportunity to have a federal deputy. So, if we have a federal deputy from the region, with my trip to Brasília, the focus will be on serving the entire population of the region, the municipalities, and our development. Having a coastal legislator will bring invaluable advances to the residents of the seven coastal municipalities. My home is the coast, and my focus will be here, constantly,” emphasizes Marcio.

“The time has come, Paranaguá needs, can, and has the potential to make history and have a federal and a state representative. So, look at yourselves and recognize it, look at your own population and see the potential we have,” concludes Marcio da União.
