Emmerdale viewers have expressed their astonishment upon discovering that actress Zoe Henry once portrayed a major Coronation Street antagonist.

Zoe, 52, has been a familiar face on Emmerdale as vet Rhona Goskirk since 2001, though her appearances have been intermittent. What many fans didn’t realise is that she also featured in the rival ITV soap during one of her breaks from the Dales.

Back in 2007, the actress took on the role of Casey Carswell in Coronation Street, a character who terrorised Claire and Ashley Peacock, making their lives a misery on the cobbles.

On social media, one soap enthusiast shared a throwback photograph of Zoe as Casey alongside Ashley actor Steven Arnold. They wrote: “Zoe Henry, Rhona, when she was in Corrie, Casey Carswell with boyfriend Ashley Peacock played by Steven Arnold.”

The post prompted a flurry of surprised responses, with one user commenting: “Wow I really don’t remember this x”, whilst another questioned: “Was she in Corrie?” A third viewer admitted: “Dont remember that!” and someone else remarked: “I loved Ashley he was great.”, reports the Daily Star.

Meanwhile, other fans chimed in with: “April’s mum was crazy Casey in #Corrie back in the day! ! (Sorry, I’m not all that up on #Emmerdale)” whilst another observed: “Watching rhona from #Emmerdale in #ClassicCorrie as Casey playing a total opposite of each character… good acting from @ZoeHenry03 to play characters that are different. #Corrie.”

In the Coronation Street plot, Claire, portrayed by Julia Haworth, initially connected with Casey through her voluntary work on a phone counselling service. As their friendship developed, Claire entrusted Casey to look after her newborn son, Freddie, whilst she popped out.

However, upon her return to discover Freddie and Casey absent, Claire became alarmed and contacted the authorities, fearing Casey had abducted him. It emerged that Casey had simply taken Freddie for a drive, leaving her distressed that Claire had involved the police.

Feeling hurt, Casey departed just as officers turned up. Yet within weeks, Casey was spotted following Claire and was suspected of starting the blaze at their property.

After her image featured in the Weatherfield Gazette and on television news, she presented herself to police voluntarily but was subsequently freed owing to insufficient evidence.

Following a confrontation, Casey and Claire rekindled their friendship, with Casey soon developing feelings for Claire’s husband Ashley after Claire expressed concerns about her marriage being in trouble. Before long, Casey pursued Ashley and the pair embarked on an affair.

In a troubling turn of events, Casey began assuming the role of Ashley’s wife and Joshua’s mother whilst Claire was absent on Casey’s recommendation. Audrey Roberts grew worried after witnessing Casey’s conduct and challenged Ashley, who confessed to the affair.

Following a confrontation between Audrey and Casey, the latter suggested that she, Ashley and Joshua would shortly become a proper family and neither Audrey nor Claire could prevent it. When Claire returned home and discovered Casey had integrated herself into the family, she confronted her and demanded she leave.

At the same time, Ashley denied the affair, insisting they had never been intimate. Casey became fixated on Ashley, and the situation escalated dramatically when she abducted his and Claire’s son, holding young Freddie and herself hostage on the balcony.

Whilst Ashley attempted to defuse the situation, Casey confessed to being responsible for the fire and declared that Claire was preventing their relationship from flourishing. Recognising the genuine threat Casey posed, Ashley attempted to persuade her that her feelings for him weren’t real.

The crisis intensified when Claire arrived at the scene, prompting Casey to compel Ashley to reveal the truth about their relationship before demanding he propose to her.

Ultimately, following a fraught confrontation, officers stormed in and detained Casey. It subsequently emerged that Casey was deemed mentally unfit to face prosecution and would be detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act, having been assessed as a significant risk to herself, the Peacock family and the wider public.

Beyond her portrayal of Casey, Zoe also appeared in Coronation Street back in 1998, taking on the character of Log Thwaite.
