Tesco shoppers who own a Clubcard are being urged to make an important check as soon as possible this week so they don’t lose out. In a new alert issued by Martin Lewis’ team of finance professionals at Money Saving Expert (MSE), shoppers are told to log into the Tesco Clubcard website or app before Sunday, March 1.

Tesco Clubcard users are being urged to check their accounts immediately, as MSE says £11 million worth of vouchers is scheduled to expire at 11.59 pm on Saturday, February 28. In a new alert posted to X, MSE said: “Urgently check if you’re about to lose your Clubcard vouchers – many expire this Saturday (28 February)!”

For those who are not ready to spend their credit, there is a trick that can extend the validity of these vouchers by another two years. Tesco Clubcard vouchers are typically valid for only two years from their issue date.

If you have paper vouchers, you can check the expiration date printed directly on them. If you have lost your paper copies or are unsure if you have any available, you can check using the Tesco Clubcard website or app:

Online: Visit the Tesco Clubcard website, navigate to ‘Clubcard account’, and then ‘Vouchers’. You will need a registered Tesco.com account and your Clubcard number (found on your Clubcard or key fobs) to view a table listing your available vouchers and their expiry dates.App: Open the Tesco app, go to ‘Clubcard’, and select the ‘Vouchers’ section.Content cannot be displayed without consent

If your Clubcard vouchers are due to expire and you want to postpone using them, you may be able to extend their validity by an additional two years. The extension must be completed by 11.59 pm on Saturday. The method, which was successfully tested by MSE this week, involves generating new vouchers with fresh expiry dates.

Tesco Clubcard vouchers work best when you use them for double or triple their worth with more than 100 Reward Partners. This includes days out to places like Alton Towers and cinemas, dining at the likes of PizzaExpress and Bella Italia, as well as travel options such as hotels.com and Eurotunnel. You can also use them directly to buy groceries, get fuel, or subscribe to Disney+.

Steps to extend your Tesco Clubcard vouchers:

Make a small purchase on the Tesco Clubcard Rewards page (this must be done here, not in-store or on other Tesco pages) or donate to one of its partner charities. The remaining balance of the voucher used will be credited back to your Clubcard account. For example, spending 50p using a £5 voucher will result in £4.50 being credited back.New vouchers are then issued with an extended expiry date lasting another two years.

While there is no minimum spend, the goal is to spend as little as possible, such as a 50p restaurant voucher (worth up to £1.50 at the restaurant). It is important to note that this process must be done for each individual voucher. Users should consider whether the effort is worthwhile for smaller amounts, such as a handful of £1 vouchers, versus a larger £10 voucher.

Sharing a technical caveat, MSE added: “Technically, under the Clubcard T&Cs, Tesco can refuse a Reward Partner order if it decides you’re trying to game the system by redeeming vouchers just to extend their validity – but we tested the trick at MoneySavingExpert.com Towers this week and it worked just fine.”

How can you increase the value of your Tesco Clubcard vouchers?

MSE explains: “Once you’ve found your vouchers, one option is to just spend them at Tesco, where a £5 voucher (for example) gets you £5 off your shopping. But you can massively boost your vouchers’ value by spending them at Tesco’s Reward Partners instead. Currently, you can get:

“Double value (£5 voucher = £10 to spend) at Alton Towers, Disney+, Hotels.com and lots more. Triple value (£5 voucher = £15 to spend) at any of these restaurant chains: ASK Italian, Bella Italia, Frankie and Benny’s, Las Iguanas, Pizza Express, Prezzo Italian, or Zizzi.”
