Amina – the Muslim Women’s Resource Centre (Amina MWRC) were subject to an inquiry by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) over allegations including financial irregularities and “bullying”.

The probe into the charity, which “empowers and supports Muslim and Minority Ethnic women by serving as a vital link between them and the barriers they face every day,” was launched in August 2024 but was concluded this week.

Charity regulator OSCR said the probe had found that Amina MWRC had acted “in line with their legal duties” and recognised they’d made “positive steps” in their working relationships.

They concluded that no further regulatory action was required at this time.

The Pollokshields-based organisation said it had been an “extremely difficult time” but had continued its work and support.

Mariam Amed, CEO of Amina, The Muslim Women’s Resource Centre, said: “An official inquiry by the charity regulator, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR), concluded that the malicious allegations made about Amina in August 2024 were unfounded.

“OSCR has confirmed they have closed their inquiry and are satisfied the governance of the organisation is ‘consistent’ with charity law and they have no regulatory concerns.

“During this period, our Scottish Government funders also concluded we were meeting all our funding requirements.

“This was an extremely difficult time for all our staff and volunteers, and I would like to acknowledge everyone’s professionalism and commitment in ensuring the organisation continues to support and be a leading voice for Muslim and Minority Ethnic (ME) women.”

Mariam added in a video posted to the charity’s social media that “despite the challenges over the past 18 months”, Amina MWRC has taken more than 3,300 calls from women in crisis and supported over 1,500 women facing domestic abuse.

They’ve also “grown and expanded” and paid out more than £21,000 to women in financial crisis.

An OSCR Spokesperson said: “OSCR has now concluded our inquiries into Amina – the Muslim Women’s Resource Centre. (Scottish Charity Number SC027690).

“OSCR met with the trustees of this charity during our inquiry and considered a range of additional information provided by the trustees.

“This included updates regarding the scope of a governance review and the actions which resulted from this.

“We have concluded from our inquiry that the charity trustees have acted in line with their legal duties, and we recognise the positive steps the charity has taken to strengthen its governance and improve the working relationships between trustees and staff members.

“We have not identified any matters of a regulatory nature that warrant any further action by us at this time.”

While the probe was ongoing, Amina MWRC won the Community Group of the Year award at the 6th Scottish Women’s Awards 2025.

They hosted an event called The Hidden Harm, with Minister for Equalities, MSP Kaukab Stewart, which focused on reclaiming the fight on ending violence against women and girls from racism, misogyny and the far right.

Another event supported the mother of Fawziya Ahmed, who died after being pushed off Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh in 2021 while 17 weeks pregnant.
