Many individuals may not realise that a scheme exists which can provide over €250 in addition to part-time wages. The Part-Time Job Incentive (PTJI) Scheme is available to a number of people – here’s everything you need to know.

The Part-Time Job Incentive (PTJI) Scheme enables certain individuals receiving Jobseeker’s Allowance (JA) to take up part-time work and receive a special weekly allowance instead of their jobseeker’s payment. This scheme serves as a stepping stone for people aiming to transition into full-time employment. You can participate in the PTJI Scheme if you secure part-time work for less than 24 hours per week and immediately before that you were on long-term Jobseeker’s Allowance (JA) for at least 312 days. Days of unemployment on Jobseeker’s Benefit (JB) or the Covid-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment count towards the 312 days if you were getting JB immediately before you got Jobseeker’s Allowance, and getting a weekly JA payment of at least €154.60 if you are single or €252.10 if you are getting an increase for a qualified adult. You must also commit to staying on the scheme for 2 months. You can hold more than one part-time job, but the total hours worked must be less than 24. The part-time job you secure must be likely to last at least 2 months and be insurable at PRSI Class A or J. Self-employed individuals are not eligible for this scheme.Initially, you can stay on the PTJI scheme for one year. This period may be extended. While on the scheme, you must continue to search for full-time work, RSVP Live reports. If you secure full-time employment but then lose it, and subsequently find part-time work, you can revert to your original Part-Time Job Incentive claim if all the PTJI conditions are met. The Part-Time Job Incentive will only continue to be paid for the remaining duration that wasn’t used previously.Instead of your regular payment, you’ll receive a weekly allowance of €160.90 per week if you are single or €262.40 per week if you are getting an increase for a qualified adultPlease note, there are no increases in these rates for qualified children. The allowance is paid irrespective of how much you earn in your job. The allowance isn’t taxable. However, your wages will be taxed as usual.Once you’ve secured the part-time job, you should get in touch with your Intreo Centre or local Social Welfare Branch Office to apply for the PTJI scheme. You’ll be asked to fill out the application form PTJI1 (pdf) and provide details of your part-time employment.Your employer needs to complete form PTJI2 at the end of each 4-week period to confirm the hours you worked and that you are insurably employed. You must sign a declaration (using the same form) confirming that you worked less than 24 hours each week. This form must be returned to your Intreo Centre or Social Welfare Branch Office. If there’s any delay in returning this form, payment is suspended until the form is received.Follow corklive:
