The conflict in Iran has sent fuel prices soaring to heights not witnessed since 2022 and the outbreak of war in Ukraine. Despite Iran and the USA agreeing to a conditional two-week ceasefire, there is no guarantee that petrol and diesel prices will swiftly return to their pre-war levels.
With this in mind, Brits up and down the country will be on the hunt for the most affordable places to fill up their vehicles, as even a few pence per litre can make a considerable difference when filling an entire tank.
Fortunately, weeks before hostilities broke out, the Labour government unveiled a new scheme called Fuel Finder, a tool specifically designed to help motorists locate the cheapest fuel available.
While numerous forecourts across the UK are recording prices at or significantly above 150p per litre, one station in Wales is, remarkably, considerably cheaper.
The Old Pump Filling Station near Saundersfoot, Wales, is currently offering petrol for just 126.9p per litre and diesel for 138.9p per litre. This narrowly undercuts Stourton Service Station in Leeds, which is selling petrol for 127.9p per litre and diesel at 137.9p per litre, and Sutton’s Garage south west of Preston, selling petrol for 129.9p per litre and diesel for 138.9p per litre.

These figures sit well beneath the UK’s current average fuel costs. According to the RAC’s Fuel Watch, the average price of a litre of unleaded petrol at a non-motorway service area currently stands at around 157.02p, with diesel at 204.26p per litre.
While the UK’s most affordable petrol stations will bring some comfort to those fortunate enough to live nearby, drivers further afield will be watching developments closely following the announcement of a conditional ceasefire between Iran and the USA.

Taking to Truth Social to announce the ceasefire, Donald Trump wrote: “Subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks.”
The truce was declared just hours after Trump had cautioned on the same platform that “a whole civilization will die tonight”.

While the ceasefire has triggered a fall in oil prices, British motorists will have to wait some time before feeling the benefit at the pumps, with automotive specialists rushing to offer money-saving tips.
According to automotive experts Vertu, Britons can save £40 by changing their driving style to be more gentle, reports the Express. In a statement, they said: “In congested traffic, many drivers accelerate towards the car ahead and brake sharply when it slows. This cycle is one of the biggest causes of fuel waste in heavy conditions.
“According to government ecodriving guidance, aggressive acceleration and braking can increase fuel consumption by 10–40% in stop-start driving.”
