A number of food items have been withdrawn from supermarket shelves this week due to safety concerns.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued several alerts, advising consumers about particular batches that could present a health risk.
The withdrawals affect various products including chicken, pasta and dessert items stocked in well-known supermarkets such as Lidl and Tesco.
Consumers are being advised to inspect their cupboards, fridges and freezers for any of the affected goods. Retailers that stocked the items have displayed notices to inform customers, and shoppers may return products for a full refund – regardless of whether they have a receipt – or dispose of them properly at home.
The FSAI states that food alerts are published when a potential hazard is detected. It noted: “Food alerts are notifications issued by the FSAI to official agencies and food businesses or other businesses relating to an identified hazard i.e. a biological, chemical or physical agent in, or condition of, food/food contact materials with the potential to cause an adverse health effect.”, reports the Irish Mirror.
Anyone who has purchased any affected items is strongly advised not to eat them. Instead, they should either return them to the retailer or discard them. Listed below are some of the most recent recall notices currently active.
Lidl Chef Select Carbonara Pasta Bake
Part of a batch of Chef Select Carbonara Pasta Bake available in Lidl has been withdrawn after certain packs were discovered to be lacking a use by date. The FSAI explained: “A small part of a batch of Chef Select Carbonara Pasta Bake sold in March did not have a use-by date on the packs. The correct use-by date for the implicated batch is 09.04.2026. Recall notices will be displayed in Lidl stores.”
The impacted products are any 1kg pack without a use by date printed on the packaging.
The item does not have a use by date displayed on its packaging.
A Lidl spokesperson commented: “Lidl Ireland is recalling the above Chef Select Carbonara Pasta Bake due to some units having no use-by date printed on the pack. The actual use-by date that should be on pack is 09.04.26.
“If you have purchased the above and it has no use-by date please, do not consume it. Instead, please return the product to a Lidl store for a full refund, with or without a receipt. Lidl wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
Tesco Finest Summer Edition Chocolate Affogato Dessert
Multiple batches of Tesco Finest Summer Edition Chocolate Affogato Dessert have been withdrawn from sale over concerns about potential contamination with small fragments of clear plastic.

“If you’ve bought an affected product, please don’t eat it. Instead, return it to a Tesco store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required.”
Pettitt’s Cook at Home Basil and Pesto Chicken Fillets
A batch of Pettitt’s Cook at Home Basil and Pesto Chicken Fillets has been withdrawn from sale owing to Salmonella contamination.

Although the implicated batch is past its use by date, the product is suitable for home freezing. Consumers are advised to check their freezers for the implicated batch.
“People infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between 6 and 72 hours. The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days.
