Jay Slater’s chilling final message has been revealed

Jay Slater’s friend has revealed the harrowing final words he messaged before his death last year. Jay, 19, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, vanished in Tenerife in June 2024, after he had attended a music festival with friends Lucy Law, Brad Hargreaves and Brandon Hodgson

Now, in a new documentary, his friend Lucy has revealed his final word after the teen made a desperate call to local emergency services. Lucy, who had known Jay for around six years, was the last person to speak to the teen before his tragic death.

Jay was found dead in a ravine in Tenerife’s Parque Rural de Teno on July 15, 2024, following a month-long search. After leaving the RG music festival in Playa de las Americas on June 17, he travelled with two men to an Airbnb in the national park area, 22 miles from where he had been staying with his friends.

It’s believed that he had attempted to travel back to where he was staying with his friends when disaster struck. Speaking in a new Channel 4 film, Lucy revealed Jay’s heartbreaking final words. On a call to Spanish police, she said: “My friend, he’s met some people, and they’ve drove him up into the mountains. I don’t know why and he’s left the house.

“And I don’t know if something happened, and I was telling him, you need to go back to your friends and tell them to drive you back down. And he said, ‘No, I can’t. I can’t’. But I don’t know why that was.” The police asked Lucy for her pal’s name before she confirmed it was Jay Slater, who had asked to be rescued.

“Yes, said he feels like he’s going to die up ther, and then the phone cut off,” she said. The audio from the call to the police, which had never been heard before, provides fresh insight into the events of June 17. Following the call, a large-scale search was initiated, concluding with the discovery of Jay’s body in a remote area near the village of Masca on July 15.

In the wake of Jay’s disappearance in the summer of 2024, a flurry of online speculation sparked a wave of conspiracy theories, leading to a social media frenzy driven by armchair detectives. The case captured global attention, with over 30 million videos posted online speculating about Jay’s fate. Channel 4’s upcoming documentary, The Disappearance of Jay Slater, is set to air next weekend.

The new film also reveals the final CCTV footage of Jay, which will also reveal the final text messages he sent. The teen was seen at 11:55pm at Papagayo Nightclub, before he is seen leaving just over an hour later at 1:04am. Mere minutes later, at 1:12am, he is refused re-entry into the same nightclub.

Security staff were seen with Jay as they pointed towards something in the distance for him to look at. At 2:40am, he texted his friend Lucy: “Can’t get in Papagayo they got marker on me.” She responded at 2:48am: “I’ve just said I’ll come out and get you if you come home.” At 2.49am Jay replied: “Doesn’t matter it’s OK. I on a mission.”

Not long after, Jay was seen on CCTV at Tramps Nightclub at 3:07am – the final CCTV footage of him. It’s believed that he had left the club and died later that morning.

According to a coroner’s report in July, Jay told his friends he was “in the middle of the mountains” and in need of a drink, as he attempted a 14-hour walk home the morning after taking drugs and alcohol on a night out.

The Channel 4 film also reveals previously unheard audio, as well as unsent messages, as well as access to the Slater family as they continue to search for answers about what had happened to him.

The Disappearance of Jay Slater airs on Channel 4 on Sunday, September 28, at 9pm.
