A Hinckley dad who grew up on a council estate has become a millionaire after winning a £1.4 million prize bundle in an online competition – and says his daughter is now “going to have everything I always wanted”.

Ashley Jacques, 29, scooped a luxury four-bedroom home, a Rolls-Royce, a Lamborghini and £100,000 in cash after entering a draw run by Elite Competitions.

The plasterer and renderer, who spent £50 on tickets, said the win had been made even more emotional by memories of his difficult upbringing.

His father has multiple sclerosis and Ashley said he and his sister spent much of their childhood caring for him on a council estate on the outskirts of Hinckley.

Ashley, who is now a father himself to a ten-month-old daughter named Teiello, said he was “still emotional” and that “most days I still can’t get my head around it”.

His ticket number was drawn by a ball machine live on social media on the last day of March, netting him the company’s biggest-ever jackpot prize.

The 29-year-old chose to take the Blackpool property worth £800,000, a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, a Lamborghini Huracán Spyder once owned by grime star Bugzy Malone and £100,000 in tax-free cash, instead of a £1 million cash alternative.

Despite the life-changing windfall, he went straight back to work the very next morning, saying he would always need to keep his mind focused and busy.

Recalling the hardships of his childhood, Ashley told Elite Competitions: “Things were quite difficult growing up. We had a hard life. My dad has multiple sclerosis and me and my sister had to look after him a lot. My parents split up when I was two and we moved to a council estate on the outskirts of Hinckley, in a place called Kin.

“We got by, dad put clothes on our back, he looked after us and made sure we were safe, warm and fed. But there were lots of things that my friends around me had that I didn’t.”

He added: “I didn’t have nice clothes, or nice trainers. My friends went on holidays with their families. We couldn’t go away on family holidays. All I ever wished for then was to have a few of the things that other people had. It really was quite tough.”

Those memories have made the win all the more meaningful, with Ashley determined that his daughter will never know the same struggles.

He said: “It has changed everything for me. I think because growing up I didn’t really have much it has made this even more emotional and special for me. I know that my daughter is now going to have everything that I always wanted.”

His first act as a millionaire will be securing Teiello’s future, he said, explaining: “I’m going to put some money away for my daughter, to invest in her future. That’s the first thing I’m doing before I think about anything else.”

He also plans to grow his construction business, investing in new vans, kit and equipment, saying: “I’ve worked hard to build it, so it isn’t going anywhere.”

But before any of that, Ashley has one very special plan in mind. He will be taking ten-month-old Teiello on her first ever family holiday to the Caribbean, after she is christened this month – the kind of trip he could only have dreamed of as a boy.

Elite Competitions managing director Alex Beckett said: “It’s hugely rewarding for us all at Elite to see Ashley win our biggest ever prize bundle. It has undoubtedly changed his life for good and forever, and that’s what we love to see most from our prize draw competitions.”
