The mass fundraising event, held on Sunday, April 26, raised money for 1,111 charities in total.

Among the beneficiaries were Beatson Cancer and Glasgow Children’s Hospital, each supported by more than 1,000 walkers.

Many smaller charities were also represented by individuals and teams.

Sir Tom Hunter marked a milestone at the event.

Sir Tom said: “You good folks got out of your beds this morning to be part of something that has become a fantastic movement for Scotland.

“You’re here because of someone you know, or a charity you care about, and you’ve chosen to help.

“That, in my opinion, is what makes Scotland the greatest wee country in the world.”

This year’s event also marked a decade since Sir Tom’s first involvement.

Since then, the Kiltwalk has raised £62 million for more than 4,400 charities.

Of that total, £48m came from the efforts of 240,000 walkers, with The Hunter Foundation contributing another £14m.

Sir Tom now hopes to see the total reach £100m within the next five years.

On Saturday, April 25, 6,000 participants walked from Clydebank to Balloch, followed by a further 14,000 walkers departing from Glasgow Green and Clydebank on Sunday, making their way to Loch Lomond.

Thanks to support from The Hunter Foundation, every penny raised by walkers goes directly to their chosen charities, along with any eligible Gift Aid.

This model makes the Kiltwalk the lowest-cost fundraising platform in the country.

Headline sponsor Arnold Clark added to the celebrations by surprising two walkers with a £10,000 boost for their charities.

Chloe Houston, who was fundraising for Cardiac Risk in Young (CRY), won the award on Saturday.

The funds will help provide cardiac screening for young people.

The second winner, Maria Cameron, secured the £10,000 donation for Ardgowan Hospice in Inverclyde, which cared for her aunt and uncle.

An Arnold Clark employee who took part in the event will also be selected to win an additional £10,000 for their chosen cause, bringing the sponsor’s total extra contribution to £30,000.

Russell Borrie, chief executive officer of Arnold Clark, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be celebrating our eleventh year as headline sponsor of the Kiltwalk.

“It’s an event that means so much to our employees and customers alike, giving them the chance to support the charities and causes closest to their hearts.

“We know the Glasgow Kiltwalk always brings an amazing atmosphere, with thousands of people coming together in a real show of community spirit, generosity and determination.”

The Kiltwalk also continued to support Sir Chris Hoy’s Tour de 4 campaign, created following his diagnosis with stage 4 prostate cancer.

More than 770 walkers in Glasgow raised funds for his five chosen cancer charities.

The fundraising effort doesn’t end in Glasgow.
