Emmerdale’s Caroline Harker has opened up about her character Dr Caitlin Todd’s upcoming scheme, and viewers are set to be left seething.

The doctor possesses knowledge that could shatter one family, and circumstances are about to deteriorate significantly for Woolpack landlady Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins). The ITV soap has been exploring workplace bullying through trainee Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant) and his mentor.

Dr Todd has been persistently criticising and highlighting faults in her student, with tensions recently intensifying as she moved to the village, muddying the waters between Jacob’s work and home life.

In forthcoming episodes, Charity becomes alarmed when she discovers Todd has been hinting at her secret in Jacob’s presence, and urges him to steer clear of Todd.

During a conversation, Todd informs Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) that she’s received correspondence confirming she’s inherited her late father’s property in Matlock, though Vanessa fears the distance could derail any budding romance and proposes they remain friends instead, reports the Express.

Todd reveals she cannot relocate until she’s secured some funds, and starts devising a strategy. Meanwhile, out in the beer garden, Todd confronts Charity with solid evidence that she and Ross Barton (Michael Parr) are baby Leyla’s genetic parents, demanding payment to maintain her silence.

Before long, Todd escalates matters by demanding £10,000 from Charity, framing it as recompense for the pension Jacob’s actions cost her. Can Charity manage to secure the funds to ensure Todd keeps her secret under wraps?

Opening up on her latest storyline, Caroline said: “I think she’s just scratching the surface about the Dingles. I mean, what she’s finding out on a daily basis I think, she’s probably doesn’t sleep much planning and what she could do to other people.

“I think she’s occupied, I think very focussed in that kind of forensic surgeon way. I think she’s focussed on that. She’ll see that through. She’s seen Jacob through. One thing at a time. But yeah, if she was there for long enough she could do some damage. She can go darker though, wait and see.”

In upcoming episodes, Charity finds herself in a difficult position after being refused a loan extension, with the situation worsening when Todd sends a text reminding her of outstanding debts.

A glimmer of hope appears when Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) shows potential interest in purchasing her share of the pub, but Caleb Miligan (William Ash) quickly dismisses the proposal, concerned about potential village backlash, though he recognises Charity’s desperation.

The situation escalates when Charity discovers Todd holding Leyla in the living room upon returning from upstairs. Todd questions Charity about her conversation with Caleb, and after hearing her explanation, firmly imposes a one-week deadline for repayment.

Todd’s interference intensifies, and during a confrontation in the pub toilets, Charity attempts to stand up to her, but quickly realises she’s powerless in the situation, leaving Todd feeling victorious.

Later on, Charity presents Kim Tate (Claire King) with a proposition – half ownership of the pub at a reduced rate, with Kim agreeing to mull it over. Will Charity manage to shake off Todd in the near future?

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 8pm and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
