Music festivals are a great opportunity to see new up and coming artists that you may not normally discover. Margam’s annual festival, In It Together, recently celebrated their fifth anniversary at Old Park Farm over the bank holiday weekend.

The music event has a variety of stages which cater to different ages and those with different tastes in music genres so that there is something for everyone. They pride themselves on showcasing new Welsh talent, and this includes 13-year-old DJ Reggie Owen.

On Saturday, May 23, the teenager took to the festival’s Steelworks stage where he performed a drum and bass set under the stage name Reg DNB. From superstar gigs to cosy pubs, find out What’s On in Wales by signing up to our newsletter here.

He started DJing in 2024 when he attended In It Together with his family. After watching a DNB set, he was inspired to book a slot at the festival’s DJ workshop which was run by Young DJs Club, and he has been in love with it ever since.

The club, which is based in Neath, caters to people aged between eight and 18, and Dan Docherty who runs Young DJs provides lessons for every genre. The group gives opportunities for their members to perform at gigs and festivals, and that is how Reggie took to the stage at In It Together.

The 13-year-old DJ said that performing at the festival was awesome.

“I love being able to play for people, it really makes me happy,” he said. “It is such a good setup at In It Together and such a good atmosphere. It is a great place for big artists to play, and for up and coming artists to get their name out there and to get noticed.

“Submersion Events created the setting, the stage, sound system and lights in The Steelworks, it was unreal. They also put on a stacked line up of established artists so it was an honour to share the stage with them, meet them and get advice from them.”

Reggie continued: “I felt really proud of myself for working so hard, every day 24/7, and grateful for everyone around me who has supported me on my journey.”

Reggie admits that he tries to keep quite tight lipped about his music. “I try to keep my DJing to myself as my school mostly celebrates rugby,” he added. “I think if people knew, I think they would think it’s cool, but wouldn’t make a fuss about it.”

Reggie’s parents, Robbie and Carly, said: “We are extremely proud of the time and effort Reggie puts into working towards his dreams. We always ask that whatever Reggie and his sister, Amelie, choose to do, that they put their heart into it and give it their best, and he certainly does that with DJing”

So, what’s next for the young DJ? He is hoping to confirm more bookings for festivals this year and he’d love to return to In It Together 2027. He explained that he finds it really hard to get gigs on his own due to not being 18.

Reggie said: “I love being able to share my music and passion with everyone around me. I feel like music brings people together and builds great friendships.”

The teenager will be opening for the Cardiff MC Local in Newport on Friday, May 29, as part of his UK tour, but in his spare time he hosts a radio show every other Saturday on Diff Radio in Cardiff.

The teenager also plans to start his own business this year called “DNB Delivery,” where he will DJ in a van that travels across the UK with decks in the back. The doors will then open, playing energetic music for the public to listen to and enjoy.

In the meantime, he plans to just “keep working hard and practicing”.
