HALF-TIME: It’s a bloodbath at Shark Park
Cronulla is going out of its way to prove last week’s loss to the Dragons was nothing but a blip, with a five-try first half against the Titans.
Of course, the last-placed Gold Coast has not put up the greatest fight, particularly defensively, but the Sharks are putting them to the sword appropriately.
In a fun twist for this Indigenous Round clash, Aboriginal stars Nicho Hynes, Braydon Trindall and Will Kennedy have all crossed for tries.

The Sharks get one more before the break
It’s five tries in the opening half for Cronulla as Nicho Hynes leads a short-side raid to unleash Mawene Hiroti down the right wing.
He grubbers back inside and Will Kennedy gets a gift of a bounce to score another.
Hynes converts as the siren sounds and the Sharks lead 28-10.

36′ Sharks bomb one
The grubber is rolling in and the Sharks have multiple bodies in a position to ground it, but between a Titans hand swiping at it and the awkward bounce, no-one can make a clean play.

Sharks can’t stop scoring
The bombs keep coming and this time Ronaldo Mulitalo’s challenge forces the error from AJ Brimson.
The ball comes down to Will Kennedy, who offloads to Braydon Trindall to dive over on the left flank.

Rabbitohs pour cold water on try record pitch invasion plans
(Getty)
With three games remaining in South Sydney’s season, Alex Johnston has 209 career tries.
He’s three off equalling Ken Irvine’s all-time record, and four away from breaking it.
There has been plenty of talk from commentators and fans storming the field the moment he breaks the record, a la Buddy Franklin’s 100-goal season or 1,000th career AFL goal.
But the Rabbitohs have urged their fans not to do it …
“As Alex Johnston approaches NRL history, excitement is building across our passionate members and supporters.
“When AJ breaks the record, we ask that fans celebrate from the stands.
“Entering the playing field carries significant penalties including fines up to $5,500 and stadium bans. We will ensure members and supporters have the opportunity to celebrate with Alex Johnston at our next home game.”
Johnston and the Rabbitohs face the Eels at the Sydney Football Stadium from 7:35pm AEST tonight.

Another straightforward try for the Sharks
Nicho Hynes has a double after yet more woeful defence from the Titans.
Mawene Hiroti puts a simple right-foot step on Beau Fermor to burst into the back field.
He looks in a predicament as AJ Brimson and Phil Sami await him, but Sami fails to make an impact as Hiroti pops a ball to Hynes to dive over for his second.

Jesse Colqhoun scores his first NRL try!
Braydon Trindall bombs and neither Ronaldo Mulitalo nor Jaylan de Groot can get a hand to the ball.
The bounce lands perfectly for rookie Jesse Colquhoun, who just needs to reel it in and fall over the line.
Sharks hit the front, 12-10.

22′ Chaos in Cronulla
So, the Titans knock the ball on and Cronulla gets a scrum. Meanwhile, Cameron McInnes comes from the field and is straight up the tunnel.
The Sharks are apparently distracted, and fail to pack the scrum in time, so the Titans get a penalty.
Gold Coast taps and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui takes a big charge, but he’s stripped by Teig Wilton!

18′ Forward pass off the kick-off
Jaylan de Groot is called for a dubious forward pass to Jaimin Jolliffe from the kick-off, so the Sharks are immediately back on the attack.

Gorgeous football from the Titans to go over in back-to-back sets
Kieran Foran throws a gorgeous inside ball to AJ Brimson, who explodes through a gap past a despairing and diving Cameron McInnes.
He looks outside and throws the pass to Beau Fermor, who dives over and all of a sudden, after a woeful Jayden Campbell conversion attempt, the Titans lead 10-6 after 18 minutes.

Titans score off the intercept!
Completely against the run of play, there’s some miscommunication between Nicho Hynes and Braydon Trindall, and Tony Francis swoops on Hynes’s pass and sets off.
Will Kennedy turns and is mowing him down, but Francis finds Jaylan de Groot to finish off the long-range intercept try.

12′ Titans held up, but it’s good news for them
Phil Sami did a textbook double movement out on the left wing, but luckily for him, the cover defence came in and got under the ball to hold him up.
If he’d scored, they definitely would have been penalised for a double movement.
But, ball don’t lie, and the Titans’ grubber goes dead and they’re penalised for being offside. So the Sharks get their deserved penalty anyway.

Women’s league icon Ali Brigginshaw makes more NRLW history
Loading Instagram content
Brisbane Broncos captain Ali Brigginshaw is one of the greatest trailblazers in women’s rugby league and today she makes a little more history with her 50th NRLW game.
She’s the first player to reach the mark in the women’s competition, with Roosters stars Isabelle Kelly and Keeley Davis set to join her tomorrow.
But it’s certainly fitting that Brigginshaw reaches the milestone first with today’s clash against the Eels, and she does it at Lang Park.

Nicho Hynes with the chip-and-chase try!
Titans fullback AJ Brimson is for some reason up in the defensive line after the fourth tackle on halfway, and Nicho Hynes spies this, so he just chips over the top and there are only Sharks within coo-ee.
Hynes wins the race and dives over. Too easy.
He converts and the Sharks lead 6-0 after five minutes.

1′ Sharks kick off Saturday NRL action in Cronulla

Former Sharks great David Peachey is out there too.
This is the second of the two-week Indigenous Round(s) in NRL and NRLW.

Sharks take down Titans in NRLW with late show
After a scoreless first half in Cronulla, the Sharks have come over the top to take down the Titans.
The Coasters are counting the cost of an ankle injury to superstar fullback Jaime Chapman and looked it as both teams struggled for points in a 0-0 opening 35 minutes.
Titans halfback Lauren Brown scored the first try five minutes after the break, and was ultimately responsible for all of her team’s points on the day.
But Emma Verran and Cassie Staples’s tries in a three-minute window, plus two late penalty goals to Chantay Kiria-Ratu, got the Sharks over the line.

NRL LATE MAIL: Titans welcome back stars
(NRL.com)
Captain Tino Fa’asuamaleaui is back after being out since round 20 with a knee injury.
Gold Coast coach Des Hasler says the team’s backline is “decimated” by injuries, with Brian Kelly and Jojo Fifita ruled out (Alofiana Khan-Pereira appears to have just been left out once again).
The team welcomes back Phil Sami on the wing, with Fifita’s injury forcing back rower Beau Fermor into the centres once again.
But the big news is on the bench as Keano Kini, the Titans’ player of the year after a breakout season at fullback last year, returning from a neck injury for his first game since round three.
The Sharks are unchanged from their 24-hour update, with Daniel Atkinson dropping out to 18th man, but are counting the cost of the losses of Briton Nikora, Jesse Ramien and Braden Hamlin-Uele.
