A mum has spoken out after her partner, Robert Davidson, died while they were on a family holiday in Spain. Davidson had been struggling with the one year anniversary of the death of the couple’s one year old baby.

She said: “Robert was really struggling. I knew he was but I didn’t know how badly.”

He had returned to the hotel he was sharing with Danielle Robb, 27, before kissing their children, aged eight and nine goodnight around midnight. He then fell off the sixth floor balcony in Torremolinos, Costa Del Sol.

Robert’s fiancée said that he died on Tuesday, February 3 ahead of the anniversary of the death of his baby daughter, Hollie. Hollie had died one year ago at seven weeks old from sudden infant death syndrome.

Robert was declared dead at the scene reported the Sunday Mail. The family from Ayr, had been at the resort since February 1 hoping for a change of scenery as the anniversary approached, reported Glasgow Live.

Daniella said: “A year ago on February 4, we lost our little girl Hollie who had died from SIDS. The memories of that date, of the paramedics rushing around our house, were just too raw so we decided to book a holiday.

“That day we had gone shopping in Malaga and when we returned to the hotel the kids had been playing at the night entertainment. Robert had been at the bar and speaking to other British holidaymakers.

“It was getting late so I told him I was taking the kids to bed first. He came into the room and gave both kids a kiss and told them he loved them. He then went out on the balcony for a cigarette.

“It was just hours before Hollie’s anniversary. I woke up when the kids screamed, ‘Mum, Robert has fallen off the balcony.’ We all jumped up and ran out of the room into the hallway. Everything that happened next was a blur.”

Hotel staff, police and nurses offered Danielle an injection to try to calm her down as she was in shock. She added that Robert, who had two daughters, nine and 13, from a previous relationship, suffered a fall on Christmas Eve.

“It was just hours before Hollie’s anniversary. I woke up when the kids screamed, ‘Mum, Robert has fallen off the balcony.’

The fall had left him with a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain which also left him confused. She was unsure if the confusion he suffered had contributed towards how Robert was feeling before his death.

She said: “We had been to the doctors and I had asked him to go back. He didn’t like to talk about his feelings much but I’d tried to get him to open up, his close friends had as well. But he wanted to be the one that was there for me, he didn’t want to put any more on me. He had been devastated at losing Hollie, we all had. We still were.”

“He was due to start a new job in telecommunications on Monday with his friend. He hadn’t been able to work since Hollie’s death and I really think this job would have helped him.”

Daniella is due to fly home today, Sunday, February 8, with her family. She had been engaged to Robert since 2021.

A Gofundme fundraising page has been launched to help bring Robert’s body home. It has already raised over £10,000. Daniella said: “We all loved him so much. He was hilarious, he could walk into a room and light it up. He was the most loving person. We are utterly heartbroken, we can’t even put into words.

“The children are the priority. We just need to get home now and begin the process of bringing Robert back. I just want him home.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are providing support to the family of a British man who died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.”
